i751 Process time

I see from the USCIS website that process time for i751 at California is 6 months. Yet, the 90 day "window" means the green card will expire well in advance of the 6 month process time. Can anyone help with reconciling this? I'd sure prefer to avoid having my status lapse.

When you send in your I751 package, they send you a NOA1 receipt which also extends your conditional green card for a year,it is good for travel and work,if you travel outside the US you must carry your green card and the NOA1 letter.

There does not seem to be any set time fro processing, mine was at CSC and was 63 days until approval but some other people have waited much longer (im so sorry for them)
