Hi VJ members,

I moved to the US on June 20,2014 on a k-1 visa and married on July 5, 2014. My wife, my sponsor, is going to start grad school in August. She will get a stipend of $31,000 per year. However her previous year income was just $5,000. I have the following questions :

1) Do I need a joint sponsor?

2) If yes, her mom would be the joint sponsor. Her mom's annual income is $31,200. Do we need to fill 2 separate i-864 for her and her mom?

3) Do we also need to file the i-864a ? When do you file i-864a?

4) On the form i-864 Part 5 Sponsor's Household Size

7.OPTIONAL : If you have siblings, parents or adult children with the same principal residence who are combining their income with yours by submitting form I-864A enter the number here

Do we fill here "0" or "1" since my sponsor and joint sponsor live in the same house?

5) Do I need to fill in form i-693? I already had gone through a medical 6 months ago when i applied for k-1 visa. I have DS-3025 "VACCINATION DOCUMENTATION WORKSHEET" stating my vaccination history. See Attachment.

Thank you

Jai

Since she has not even started yet, and because it will not only be new income, but also temporary, I suggest you use a joint sponsor.

You live in the same house, but that does not mean an I-864A must be used. An I-864A is used for a household member to combine their incomes with that of the sponsor filling out an I-864. If neither claim each other on their taxes, then view it as two separate households under one roof. The mother would fill out her own separate I-864 as the joint sponsor. She needs enough income for herself, any spouse, any minor children, any other dependents claimed on her taxes plus you, the intending immigrant. Your wife will not list her mother in her household anywhere on her own I-864, so that Part 5 #7 would be 0. Her mother will not list her either, unless she claimed her as a dependent on her 2013 taxes. She will need to provide her most recent tax transcript, letter from employer and or most recent pay stubs to prove current annual income, plus proof of being a USC or LPR.

See this post about the DS-3025 and I-693 > http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/428381-i-693-report-of-medical-examination-and-vaccination-report/?p=6206232

The flu vaccination should not have been marked as not age appropriate, as those 6 months and over need the flu shot during flu season. However, since it is not currently flu season, it is possible they will let it slide. You could worry about finding a civil surgeon and getting the vaccinations transcribed onto an I-693 if you happen to get an RFE for it.

In addition, your previous DS3025 can be transcribed into I-693, but they won't let it slide by cos IT IS A MUST. If you are lucky enough, you can get it done for less than. 200$, I did mine for less than that, plus if your shot are not complete, you will need a skin test, TB and those you do not have on your old V sheet. Call around or check USCIS web for list of approved surgeon. You can send DS-3025 with your AOS, But it's a must to have it done before you go for interview. Good luck

My opinion is not to get you angry, if it suit you, good, if it does not... Look away!!!!

No, it is not. Many are approved with or without interview without ever seeing a civil surgeon for an I-693. Also, if the K-1 medical was done within a year of filing for AOS, no medical or parts of a medical such as blood work or new TB tests are required. The details Nich-Nick posted in the link I provided above is accurate information.
