Hello. I've looked around on the site and have read so many things my head hurts. I wish to apply for a driver's license next month and have a few questions.

I filed my AOS paperwork late June, just waiting on the NOA hardcopies in the mail.

My I-94 expired July 8th.

I already have a SSN, and will be getting it changed into my married name this month.

If I bring my SSN, NOA hardcopies, passport and proof of address will I be able to get a Florida driver license? From reading online it seems to request a non-expired I-94. :s

A friend of mine who is adjusting via VWP said he went into the DMV with all those things I listed and was given a full license valid for 8 years with no practical test? Just a theory test. Now, he can lie about things so I was wondering if this is true? He lives about two hours from me so I wouldn't be able to go to that DMV anyway if he is indeed correct (which I doubt it).

I would really like to have my drivers license and car for a couple of weeks prior to working so I can get used to driving around. I'm assuming I can't lease a car using either my British license or my International Driving Permit?

Any help is appreciated!

Thank you for the link :)

OK so where I trip up is the Step One: Primary Identification. As the I-94 has expired then it looks like I will have to wait until I receive my EAD card to apply for the driver's license. Boooo.

At least I can have everything else ready so that as soon as my EAD comes through I can go down to the DMV.

For now I can drive using my International Driver's Permit + British License should I choose to rent a car at any time or be added to my husband's insurance (if they accept foreign licenses).

Thanks for the link, it was heavy reading but useful.
