I started stockpiling back then. Fact: I was on Block Island some time around 1999, and found a soda machine that sold Crystal Pepsi, which had been discontinued years before. We bought all 25 cans inside the machine.

It actually gets easier. Most of the men in the med-to late 40's group or either taken or F'ed up beyond hope. when you out there at the age with a good job, personality etc. easy pickings.

I only quoted the study, and not my personal opinion. I think the results are interesting because women are always assumed to be washed up at 40, and here it shows that it happens to men as well.

I am an old and definitely not washed up. Actually, most of my friends who are over 40, have no kids and have lived fairly cleanly over the years still look pretty darn good.

People that use sneering epithets to put others down think they are telling you about their target. But what they're doing is telling people about themselves - their lack of character.

From my youngest age it never occurred to me to look down upon a person because of race, religion, gender, sexual preference, age etc. Same with couples. I was about 16 the first time I heard someone sneering derisively about an age difference with a couple and I remember being baffled by it - how could this person be so affected by something they have nothing to do with? What is wrong with them?

As I got older it became clearer to me that this kind of nasty personality trait is much more general than whatever they are foaming-at-the mouth about, whether it is an inter-racial couple or gays or whatever. You can be assured that a dinner with them is going to be a conveyor belt of malicious bile, and that however they are referring to blacks or wait staff or mixed couples - that's how they talk about you too behind your back.

How is this about age differences? I thought this article was about personal preferences in what we find attractive in a mate. Some people prefer older men or women, and some younger. My personal preference is for a partner roughly the same age as me, and always has been. I am not attracted to younger men, and I've found relationships with men more than five years older than me to have a power imbalance that is uncomfortable for me. For me. People who don't see age as an issue for themselves should just rock on with their bad selves. Not for me, thanks.

Why draw attention to something about yourself that you think others may be shocked by, and then castigate others for apparently being shocked when attention has been drawn to it? I don't really know. I suppose that many of us enjoy a little righteous indignation from time to time, myself included.
