Hello All,

My wife and her daughter came here on K-1/K-2 Visas , We have filed to remove conditions recently and are excited

for the next big step coming up in a few months . My question is. Will my wife's 9 year old daughter (my stepdaughter) naturalize with her Mom ? Or will it be two separate applications? Will my stepdaughter need to study for the civics exam as well as Mom ?

Thanks to all

no, your daughter does not need to study for the civics...she gets naturalized via USC parent. And as far as I know, no need to file a separate form at this point. First, wife files, gets her citizenship. Then you guys apply based on citizenship of a parent for the daughter (again, she will not need to study for the test...imho).

I have a 16 yo daughter, my wife naturalized today. Here is how you can get the daughter prrof of her citizenship - after your wife is naturalized- file for her naturalization certificate or get your wife's US Passport, then once you get the documents back you can apply for the daughter's passport showing the relationship, and the wife's naturalization - beware though PLEASE READ THE PASSPORT APPLICATION CAREFULLY!!! Further steps MAY need to be taken, because your daughter is under the age of 16. The point is you have two avenues to get her proof of citizenship - look at each closely, and determine what works best for you.

On the day your wife naturalises, your stepdaughter will automatically become a US citizen too under the Child Citizenship Act (2000), provided your stepdaughter is under 18 on that day.
