Hi everyone,

I've never had to post a question because I've found so many other threads useful. However, I can't seem to find information on my special subject =). Husband (Dominican) and I (USC) found out we were expecting at the beginning of March. Due to health problems, I had to move back to Michigan to find a job and visit an obgyn here. Our i-130 PD is March 17th, 2014 and we're hoping - just like everyone else - that this won't take too much longer. Maybe NOA2 in Sept?? We're expecting our little on at the end of October and due to my high risk pregnancy, I'm not able to travel anymore but my husband and I don't know how much longer we can wait. Has anyone had experience in this topic? Would the Consulate take just my husband at the interview? Would they deny us or put us on a waiting list?

Please help! =)

I was pregnant when we started the process. My husband was unable to be there for the delivery of our daughter.

We were able to expedite our case when they were doing it for Filipino beneficiaries. I don't understand your questions. They will interview your husband and if he has all the docs they require and answers the questions they ask then there won't be a problem with approving his visa.

Good luck

He can go by himself....even though they recommend the petitioner to be present but in certain circumstance they will accept the petitioner's absence....I think that what you can do is to send your husband a letter from your doctor stating that you are not able to travel because such and such.... So when your husband is asked about why you were not there he has a valid reason on paper to show..I hope this help. Congratulations on your pregnancy You're going to be a great mommy!

Hi Senna,

In the Dominican Republic the USC spouse must be present at the visa interview. Not sure if any other countries are like this also. I was told that we couldn't get our case expedited just because I'm pregnant. I also saw somewhere else that if I can't make it down for the interview that they'll just put on some type of list. But I was wondering if someone could explain it to me better.

Congratulations on your little one =)

Thank you F&A! Would I need to call ahead of time to let them know I will be not attending?? I don't know if that would be to NVC or the Consulate.

I think that you can call NVC and explain to them your situation and they might tell you what you can do, but I suggest you to call them when you get your NOA2(approval)..one thing you can also do is to reschedule your husband interview, so by the time of his interview you will be able to flight with your new born!

Ah I get it now. My husband wasn't required to be at the interview.

Agree with F&A. Get a doctor's note saying that you cannot travel and detail the risks of doing so. You can call the NVC to ask but from what I know, stuff about the interview itself is the embassy's scope. I would call the embassy to ask what kind of supporting documents you'll need to send to your husband so you'll have time to prepare those.

Enjoy your pregnancy! I know I complained a lot when I was pregnant but it really flew by so fast I wish I enjoyed it more.

I couldn't expedite at the time of my pregnancy but he CAN go alone. Send as much medical proof as you possibly can. Every doc visit every hospital visit. I don't care if it is for a headache. Everything. Tell your doctor your situation and tell him you need every detail on what could possibly happen if you were to travel. My doctor was very good and made it sound so serious! And you write a letter...explaining every detail every emotion. The fact that youll need him to work while you're on maternity leave because youll have no income.

I was about to do all this...had all my proof ready but now after I gave birth I can go and I requested an expedite and waiting on a interview date. But other people HAVE gone alone. If you can't avoid it... that's it. Good luck
