I had my Marriage Certificate when I got it so it has my Married name on it already. The only thing other than travel that i need my green gard for is to get my drivers license renewed. They didn't tell me when I went in that I could only get a license for as long as my visa was valid, and the day it arrived...it also expired. If i had of known that i would have held on to my canadian licnese so that I wasn't completely housebound. But..Lesson learned and info passed on to others going through this process.

You should be able to renew your drivers license with the EAD. If you use the EAD to renew the drivers license, it will expire the day the EAD expires (1 year). But then once you get your actual green card you can renew it again. You should get your green card well before the expiry of the EAD. But if you don't, then you can renew the EAD.
