I-864 question on household size?

Hi,

So I'm filling out the I-864 and my Wife is the Principal Immigrant, and along with her daughter that makes the 2 people I'm sponsoring, but a little further along in Part 5 in the section about my household size it asks me if I am married and you have to enter "1" which makes my household look one person bigger than it is.

Since my Wife and Stepdaughter are the only two I am sponsoring and I live alone up here until they arrive what should I put for total household size? The form says don't count anyone twice but I DON'T want to leave question 3 in part 5 blank.

Tx!

I am pretty sure your household size would be 3. When we did it (no kids), we put 2, as the sponsor's income must be enough to support both the sponsor and the beneficiary. Add to that an extra dependent and... 3.

You're right though, I found that part really confusing as well. If anyone knows different, I hope they post, so that I may learn of my mess-up.

Don't add her twice. 1 for spouse or immigrant one for dependent. One or the other but not both. And its 3.

Your house hold is 3 if you look about where you put 1 for yourself it says immigrants sponsoring that is where you put 2 plus your 1 = 3. I was really confused on this one myself. So if your sponsoring your wife and her child 2 under immigrant sponsoring and again it's about where you count yourself as one. Good luck. :)

DO NOT LEAVE ANYTHING BLANK OR YOU WILL GET A CHECK LIST. PUT IN N/A OR NONE AND IF YOU CAN'T which you can't on some questions you will have to hand wright N/A Come to the following link here on VJ for help we are all there to help you an anyone who needs help.

Read the first post well and click on links it answers pretty much all questions and if you don't understand or find your question there then ask in the thread.

I am seeing people getting checklist when sponsoring two immigrants and are including each immigrants on the others AOS. They stated in the checklist which I will use the poster example wife & step child. On the wife AOS you will not include the child therefore making the household size 2, and on the child AOS do not include the wife also making the household size 2. Per conversation that they have had with NVC they are saying they will know the household size tally up to three, so therefore, do not put another immigrant on the others petition as a household size. So far I have seen 4 post with checklist for this same reason. Please can anyone clarify this for me?, because according to the above posts everyone is saying household of 3. I know the question is misleading on the AOS form because it ask you to list the family member traveling within 6 months, but then goes on to say each petition must have its own AOS.

howdy,

So I made a mistake, and NVC sent me a checklist concerning my I-864; here's my story:

My wife is petitioning for me and my 3 kids. ( IR 1 & IR 2). she has 3 kids, and I have 3 (yes, modern day brady bunch), so 6 kids in total, a mom and and dad; that makes the household size = 8.

I thought filing one I-864 form would be enough (and sending it for each case) would be enough. I was wrong.

the NVC sent me a checklist for all four I-864 forms I have submitted asking me to correct the following:

1) on my form (the dad):

- they asked me to exclude the names of my kids on part 3 (family member 1...3) as they will each have their own form.

- they asked to indicate the total number of immigrants in this form to : 1 (only me)

As for the household size, according to their instructions (and later confirmed by a phone call to NVC) the household size would be

my wife + me (the immigrant) + her 3 kids = household size of 5 [my kids are not to be included] !!!

2) on my kids forms

- they asked me to exclude the names of siblings and father (family member 1...3) as they will each have their own form.

- they asked to indicate the total number of immigrants in this form to : 1 (the child)

on these forms the household size would be:

my wife + her husband (me) + her 3 kids + the immigrant (one child on the form) = household size of 6 [the 2 other kids are not counted]

Although this is what the NVC representative told me to do, it just doesn't make any sense.

one form would declare the household size to be 5, and 3 other forms would declare it to be 6.

isn't this a classic case of misrepresentation ?

my wife doesn't claim my kids on her taxes (so she cannot claim them as dependents) and there's no place on the form to add the missing kids.

any thoughts??

thanks.
