Green card delivered to the wrong address

Has anyone been in this situation before?

I moved during my AOS and activated mail forwarding with USPS. I also submitted my change of address online to USCIS for all petitions at once but only got confirmation for the I-765. Got my AP/EAD combo card at the right address, but since I never received the confirmation for the I-485 my lawyer asked me to do it again just for that one. I did but never received a confirmation. At the interview, my husband brought it up and the officer said the address was only changed in the system for the I-765, so she would change it for the I-485. We were approved, and a few days later I got the tracking info for the package.

I just got a text message that it was delivered to my old address (it shows which city it was delivered to). We're trying to get a hold of the current tenants but they're not being very cooperative.

If they don't give it to me, what can I do? Help!

You could report it lost/stolen and ask them to send you a new one to the right address, if you have no other way of getting it. (or at least, I think so)

I don't understand how the other tenants are "not being cooperative". All they have to do is put the envelope addressed to you in the "Misdirected Mail" box, or forward it or something. Not hard.

They're saying they haven't gotten it, but it says it was delivered. Now they don't want to check again.

I called USCIS and am in line to talk to a Tier 2 in approximately 75 minutes.

Ok, good luck!

Was it an apartment complex? Can you call the manager there? Not sure how much that would help... but it is fully possible that things get lost in the mail, plus you had mail forwarding set up, and that messes things up, I've found.

It is possible that the piece was not delivered. This is not the first time here on VJ where someone says the tracking info says it was delivered and they never received the GC You should contact the local PO and have them verify that it was delivered. If you get no where with the PO, I would file a police report and either try calling to the USCIS and getting a Tier Two Human or make an infopass appointment and ask for a new GC based on it having never been delivered (this is to avoid the $450 fee for filing the I-90.

Good luck,

Dave

Mail from USCIS cannot be forwarded. If it is not deliverable to the address listed on the envelope (for example: if you are not longer living there) then it will usually be returned to USCIS as undeliverable.

Just to update anybody who may find this later and wonder what happened:

I went back to my old address and got the green card from the new tenants (it was delivered normally). I thought all was good, but then realized I still needed the I-485 approval notice. Got the I-130 approval and the I-865 confirmation at the right address and still no sign of the I-485.

I made an InfoPass appointment to figure out if they have the right address for me or not. Now that I'm officially a permanent resident I need to keep them updated if I move and I don't want to get in trouble if the letter goes back to them as undeliverable.

Thanks for the input!
