The appropriate visa will depend on what you will be doing, why do you want to come back again?

Canadians do not apply for B1 / B2, when u enter the USA the stamp your passport B1/B2 and the end of stay date. If you return before your date , you have nothing to worry about however you will probably have to wait a little longer before entering again.

What are my visa options as a canadian? I have almost stayed my full term of 180 days, but would like to return as soon as possible. Can I as a canadian apply for a B1/B2 visa? As far as i can see the visa terms are different for a Canadian.

If you entered as a tourist, then you are already considered to be on a B1/B2 visa. Canadians do not have to apply for tourist visas to the US and are very rarely given stamps in their passports upon entry to the states, however they are still considered to be in the states in a B1/B2 status which come with a 6 month period of stay.

Chances are if you've already been in the states for your 6 months as a tourist that you will not be allowed back in right away. the rule of thumb is to be spending more time in your home country than you are visiting the US. If you've been here 6 months, then you will probably need to wait at least another 6 months for re-entry to the US as a Canadian tourist. Of course nothing is etched in stone and stranger things have happened with border crossings.
