I have landed today, CBP officers took very long time at SFO. I was being told to be seated and wait for my turn, and then it was all done after 2 hours wait.

Puru,

Welcome to USA. Please stay in touch with all of us

Welcome to USA. What it too much rush at SFO? Just thinking as to why they sent you to secondary inspection? Did they ask anything and/or checking something or just no officer showed up for two hours.

P.S.> If they send you to secondary inspection for any reason, 2-3 hours is norm. Usually you are just sitting in the room waiting for someone to show up or there are many people there.

There were 2 lines, one leads to Citizens and Permanent Residents & second one leads to Visitors. There was a guy who assist me when I asked about the correct line to join for my case, he told me to join Citizens' line. Me and mother were together, she swiped her greencard in one of a machine there and then her fingerprints done and then that machine took a picture of her.

We waited for about 10-15 minutes in a queue for our turn. One CBP officer then called us, his expressions were rude and so his tone was. He started like this:

1. Why are you coming to america?

2. What will you do here?

3. Who is she with you?

4. How long did she spent time outside the US?

5. Give me your greencard madam, let me see it.

Then, he stamped her passport and gave her back. And told me to put my right hand on fingerprint machine for fingerprints and then he clicked my picture there. Then, he instructed me like this: listen boy, I am done with this lady and she's ok. She can go now but ..... hmmmm for you I dont know right now. I can't let you go in, and you need to wait. Do one thing boy, do you see that corridor there in the corner, go there and enter the second room and wait there. Someone will come and look after you and he will tell you exactly what will happen then.

All this time, this officer was very rude to me for no reason. He made me feel like an illegal immigrant, I was so furious but I could do nothing but wait n watch. I was too sleepy at that time, me and mother were tensed and sitting in that room. There were many people waiting for their numbers, I submitted my passport with declaration form and THAT sealed envelope to another officer there. I have seen 2-3 cases where they sent people back to their countries right away, no matter if they gotta a valid visa for how long. Most of them were on Non-Immigrant, so I made up my mind that Im fine and there wont be any problem with me. Then, after an hour and half there was this chinese officer entered the room and he pulled my file with the passport and called my name and told me to come outside the room alone. He instructed me to wait there, he will wave his hand and call me up in few minutes, after 10-15 minutes he called me up there he was holding my passport but without that envelope and he gave me back and asked me about the address what I have filled in the declaration form.

And in the last, he said: "Do not move till the time you receive your greencard, be remain at this address only. It will take 3 months at least, you got it what I said" and I was like nodding my head and said yes I will sir, this is the permanent address of my parents.

"Okay, now you can leave. Don't sit there for long, go go go now .... come on tell her to move outside" he was a funny guy and far better than the first one for sure. Then, me and my mom came outside relaxed.

I don't know why my whole story is full of intense drama, every time there's something unusual happened at various points.

Anyway, here I am now and waiting to receive my greencard and SSN. I hope I will receive them soon in this month.

Some officers are just like that, but good thing it's over. Did other officer stamped your passport with I-551 or just regular admitted stamp? If you have got I-551 stamp(usually valid for one year), you don't even need plastic green card to travel anywhere outside US and return.

Just 3 weeks movement in the 1st month of the fiscal year doesn't sound promising. Hope it picks up the speed in later months.
