Is there anyone here who knows or has done this: opt out of FB1 category and move back to F2B category ?

Phillipines applicants should be familiar with this, since their F2B PD was ahead of FB1 Priority date. Can someone give some info on how to go about it please respond soon :help: ?

Hi, i am in the same page, i am just about to do that, you can imagin that it is not easy to decide. The point is that if i wasn't F1 write now my date is current for "filing application" considering my old category of F2B. I now it is very late. God willing you must be in the States right now. So if you got the answer or you could share your experience with me I will be so happy to hear your story, it will be help ful. Thanks

Thank you for clarifying. So if I understand correctly, at the moment, for F2B, they are allowing NVC processing up to May 1, 2016

When they get to November 2016, that is when the portal will allow us to pay the fee and make the filings.

I suppose I was confused on why I got the email alert to sign in to CEAC, but perhaps that was to just make myself familiar with the website.

So, I got a letter from NVC with Case # and Invoice #. I logged in to CEAC and it's asking me to pay fees. It also states Location of Interview, which is my Home Country.

There's seems to be a mistake. I'm residing in the U.S on a work visa and I have no intention to go back. I was hoping to adjust it here.

Has anyone faced a similar situation where you're already here in the U.S. but you're interview location is back home.

How can I have an interview here in the U.S. instead of having it back in my home country? I've been living in U.S for the last 14 years and haven't been back to my home country

Hi. I would like you to tell me a little bit about what do I have to do after knowing that my PD is current for "Filing application" what is the fist step to do? I live in Cuba. Thank you.

I think overseas processing is currently banned. So, not sure if NVC will initiate the process. Wait for the ban to be overturned first.

Then you can contact NVC only if 3 months have passed since filing date.

F2B Stuck on May 2016?

Everyone is stuck at slow rates because the only FB category people who have been able to get green cards since April are those doing AOS. No point racing forward with the VB when there is already a backlog building up at the embassies.

Anyone from cities that falls under Morrisville field office? I checked their processing time, and it said they are processing AOS that was filed from August 2018, and that is a one year retrogression from last time I checked. What on god's name is going on? I filed this June - does this mean I will have to wit 18 months just to get interviews?

I did Adjustment of Status under Family 1st preference category. The processing times listed are bogus, do not pay attention to them. Just take them with grain of salt. I filed in October 2019 and got approved in September 2020 so it took 11 months for me. I live in region with one of the fastest USCIS field offices in the country (as rated by survey) so it was fast for me. If it wasn't for COVID-19 pandemic, I believe my I-485 would have been approved even faster. Due to USCIS offices closed from March - July, my case was on hold. However, as soon as offices started doing green card interviews, I got an interview. The point I am making is do not pay attention to processing times listed but you can read here on forums generally on how fast your field office is. That would be a better indicator.

Is Morrisville the one near Charlotte? From what I have read about Charlotte, I think it is average in terms of wait and delays so I think you should expect 12-15 months from date you filed.

Good luck! Let me know if you have any questions about I485 process or if you need interview tips, I would be happy to help.

@jcracked52 Congrats and appreciate you sharing your experience and details on this. Would you have any details on the following 3 question on adjusting status:

1) I have already filed per date of filing (f2b) and I await my final action date, which is ~4months lagging wrt my PD, to be current. Any insights if field offices are scheduling interviews prior to final action date being current as my case is ready to be scheduled for an interview.

2) Are they waiving AOS interviews in F1 or F2b categories? Many applicants in these categories may have a straightforward case. Wondering if you know on what basis USCIS may waive AOS interviews in these categories specifically?

3) Would you be able to provide the type of questions they asked during the interview?

Many thanks buddy and again, congrats!

No problem. I would love to help because I know how stressful this process can be so I will do anything to help fellow AOS applicants.

You asked some good questions, here are my responses:

1) So my filing date got current in October 2019, so I applied then. I believe my final action date got current in Jan 2020, so it was lagging by a few months. It didn't matter for me because final action date got current within couple months of me filing I485. I believe what happens is they proceed as normal and at the interview they check if final action date is current or not. In fact, at my interview, the officer checked visa bulletin in front of me and checked to see if "visa is available." The officer said "The visa is available" so I believe it doesn't matter until your time of approval. If your final action dates current at interview, then they approve or if it's not current they send back to National Benefits Center or hold on to file.

2) I believe they are hardly waiving any interview even for F1 or F2b applicants. I have read on these forums some parents of US citizens getting interviews waived and even some marriage based AOS waived but if I were you I would not count on it being waived even if you have straight forward case. You should not fear an interview as the main purpose is to confirm identity and make sure all admissibility questions are accurate and confirmed.

3) My interview was a bit different because I applied under 245i as I had overstayed my student visa. So mostly questions were regarding the 245i section and i130. The officer didn't seem to be experienced with 245i so the officer said they have to review some more and run by supervisor. After a week of my interview, I got approved. The officer just went over all of those yes/no questions on I485 and asked my name etc. to confirm identity.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck!

Joining this forum today, and hoping to get some helpful info. Promising to help others whenever I can...

My question is regarding processing time for F2B category. BTW, my priority date is 12/18/1019.

https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/ shows processing time for "Permanent resident filing for an unmarried son or daughter over 21" as 1 week to 7 months, for Texas service center. But for the same category California has a processing time of 56.5 to 73.5 months. Why such a big discrepancy? Can I request USCIS to transfer my application from California to Texas?

Thanks for your consideration and time, much appreciated!

Unfortunately no, you can't request for transfer. It's a shame that the whole thing is not centralised yet, so everybody waits the same time.

I am in California too. The good news is, they have touched my case after 3.5 years but they have requested RFE so it's not approved yet. I have also seen few cases in California approved within 1-2 years recently.

That 5-6 years is the maximum one has to wait rather than average.

I see, thank you. How long has there been a backlog? What's the normal speed when the backlog isn't in place?

Thank you!

How is that possible! According to Executive order of April 22 and June 22 all Family category green card visas are suspended until December 31st. Ref posting by Waiting_ever. Not sure if your category is same as mine (FB vs F2B)...
