Does anyone here live near the Mexican border? What's really going on down there?

Drudge is making it sound like massive unrest bordering on civil insurrection.

Lib blogs are making it sound like... nothing. They're just not talking about it much.

So if you're down there, tell us what you're seeing. I'm curious.

I think it's kind of funny (the pic).

The only reliable information I have found is the influx of disease from the immigrants. This is to be expected since they have traveled for days or months in unsanitary conditions with no health facilities and usually in close quarters with others. Fully expecting a pandemic any time now of some minor but treatable disease in the areas of the immigration camps.

Are you in the area?

the feds are forbidding news stations from filming at the holding facilities, and denying entrance to state elected officials. what else do you need to know?

I'm much more interested in what's happening outside the holding facilities. If the situation is as dire as Drudge is making it out to be, there is no way the entire impact of it is limited to holding facilities.

That's why I'm interested in hearing from people who live in the area.

Well, they've also been remarkably incurious about all the "phony scandals": Fast & Furious, VA, IRS, Benghazi, 'open borders' by fiat, Obamacare, Talibani release, etc. etc.

It would be nice if you could stay on topic for a few hours. If no one has chimed in from the area by then, feel free to take this on any tangent you like.

Sorry not directly on topic - I also would like to hear from anyone that is in the areas - I heard on NPR this morning that Obama is asking for 2 billion in emergency funding. They also mentioned that because the majority of the immigrants are not from Mexico that they have to go through a different process to have their case heard that could take years because of the backlog. No doubt most of the 2 billion is for food/shelter but I heard a passing mention that part of it is also for increasing personnel to handle these cases to address the backlog and allow for returning them to their country sooner... I've seen no confirmation of this anywhere.. I hope they are doing this as waiting for years to hear a case just sets up the "I've built a life here how can you send me back?" defense.

Also interesting the portable stations they have to help those crossing the border.. They are in three languages: English, Spanish.. and Chinese.

I don't believe it.. Prove it to me and I still won't believe it. -Ford Prefect
