All,

I've been reading a lot and also checked the guides, but I'm a little confused and would just like to have it 100% clear...

The K-1 visa is currently in processing, so I still have some time but would like to know as much as I can now.

After we have the visa approved and I'm flying into the US and we'll get married, this is what I understand should be done;

- Try to get the marriage certificate ourselves, else it might take a couple of weeks before we receive it

- File the following forms;

  • I-485 - Adjustment of Status
  • I-765 - Application for Employment Authorisation
  • I-131 - Application for travel authorisation (optional)

What I'm not sure of though, is do we I need to file another G-325A because me (and my US born fiance) already filed this with the I-129F.

Do we also need to file I-864 (Affidavit of Support)??

And what determines if I need a medical? I'm born in the Netherlands and live in the UK currently. I'm not worried about it, but not sure if I get told at a certain point that I should be going to get my medical.

Then the final question, do I need my birth certificate at some point? In English?

Yes, you need all of those things.

Except, your need of a medical will depend on the medical that you get abroad. If you get all the shots abroad, then you don't need any follow-up in the US. If you don't get all the shots, then you need to get them in the US and get a Civil surgeon to give you an official update of your vaccinations.

Here is the VJ step by step guide: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos

The AOS guide, as linked by Harpa, details all you need to know in adjusting from K1.

Yes, you will need a new G-325a. Remember you will have new specifics on your bio after the wedding.

Yes on the I-864. Do take note of the supporting documents for this: http://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/form/i-864instr.pdf

To determine if you need a new medical and file an I-693, here is Nich-Nick's very helpful post: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/428381-i-693-report-of-medical-examination-and-vaccination-report/?p=6206232

Yes, you will need to submit a copy of your foreign birth certificate and it's English translation (if not in English).

Don't forget to apply for your SSN too.

Lastly, download the forms from the uscis site for the most updated versions. All the best!

Thanks both..

Makes sense.

Stupid (last) questions, what is SSN?

Is there a limit on how old the birth certificate can be? If not I'll make sure to get one over now...

And you state 'new medical', to be fair I didn't supply any medical so far (only did the i129f at this point) ..

We just applied for the K1 so were still a long wait for the questions I'm asking now :)

Sorry for the short sentences, typed this on my iPad on the train lol

SSN = Social Security Number. Guide here: http://www.visajourney.com/content/ssn

- You can apply prior to wedding and until there are at least 15 days validity on your I-94.

I don't think so. But not sure too with your consulate if there is some sort of authenticated version that they require <this is for your K1 visa embassy interview phase.> You should probably check out the UK regional subforum: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/99-united-kingdom/

- Nich-Nick and Vanitas posted a pinned complete K1 guide thread for those going through US Embassy of London: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/474161-london-k1-a-complete-guide/

If you're getting a new birth certificate from your home country, might be a good idea to order at least 2. Take note that you're only required to submit a copy for your I-485.

I just noticed from your timeline that your fiance just recently submitted the I-129f petition. You will take a medical exam with the embassy-certified panel physician after your case have gone through NVC. Here's the K1 flowchart for your reference: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1flow

You are getting a bit ahead. So far your fiancé has only filed a petition. When that is approved, YOU get to apply for a visa at the embassy in London. I think you need to read this K1 Guide for London which is in the UK Forum to learn the rest of your process. London will be different than what you find those from Mexico, Ukraine, etc experience. Each consulate is slightly different in procedure. London specific guide http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/474161-london-k1-a-complete-guide/

Do read all of it because there are a few updates added that tell about changes after the first 8 subject discussions . Example the guide says you have to leave your phone at a nearby pharmacy because phones aren't allowed inside. An update says that is no longer the case and phones are allowed inside the embassy.

Now your questions--

SSN- Social Security Number. You may apply as a K1 when you get to the US.

Birth Certificate- don't send to America now thinking ahead to your adjustment of status. You will need it for your interview in London. It can be old or a new certified copy. Doesn't matter as long as it is valid and has your parent's names on it.

Now go learn about how to be ready for your next step...applying for the visa. You will also learn about the medical exam you will undergo in London. link reminder--> http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/474161-london-k1-a-complete-guide/

Robert,

You can get your birth certificate ("Internationale Geboorte-akte") from the town or city where you were born. Make sure to tell them it is for a U.S. visa - they will then give you the "long version", and it will already be multi-lingual. When I requested mine a week ago, I called them up, and was given instructions on how to order it by email. They sent it by regular mail, and an electronic version (PDF) by email, plus the invoice for it (EUR 12.50 by the way.)

You *can* authorize someone else to order it for you, by the way, so if you can't do it from the UK, just ask someone here in NL..

Good luck on the voyage! I am awaiting NOA2 in the same procedure! :-)

Hi Fred,

Yes I noticed nowadays they supply it in English as well.

All I'm just wondering about now then, is the police report. Should I get a Dutch and a UK one? Since I've been only living in the UK for the last 4 years or so?

And I realise I'm getting a bit ahead, it's just a lot more paperwork than I thought It would be and it's making me anxious if me and my fiancée haven't forgotten anything in the first place. Etc.etc..

Sorry to be bugging everyone lol

Yes, their International version does, so if you make it clear that's the one you need, you're all good.

The police reports.. yes, you need reports from all countries you have resided in since you were 16. That would include the UK in your case, and, before that, probably NL. You can request that report from any NL "gemeente", but most obvious would be the last one you lived in, or the one you were born in. You can also request it directly from Justis, the organization that 'handles' those reports. PM me if you need info on that!

Do not make the mistake me an my wife made, we waited until""AFTER THE WEDDING" " to get her SSN, and had to make 5 trips to the office to get it straightened out, as her "maiden name" was in the data base, but her married name was not!

Get your SSN 1ST, then after marriage, take your marriage license to SS office and have your name changed.,.,.,,.a lesson learned!

Guys,

I'm a bit confused about the shots...

I'll make an appointment with my GP here, and let him give me all the shots needed.

But should I be the one filling in some form that it has been done? Or is any document with my GP's signature enough proof and then Knightsbridge will fill in the DS3025?

In the meantime I requested my birthcertificate in English and also the Dutch police report is on the way. :-)

For visa-- your fiancé does I-134

For adjustment of status-- your spouse does I-864

There are two affidavits of support on your behalf
