Hello everyone. I'm Chris(42-USC) and my fiancé is Nana(35-Thailand). First of all, I need to give respect to all of you that have gone or are going through this process and are away from the ones they love. This is one of the hardest things that I have ever done. Every day feels like two....a two hour conversation feels like five minutes, and every moment of happiness with her brings great sadness at the same time.

I did not plan this, need this, or want this, but it happened. I guess that sometimes we find the best things in life when we are not looking. I have been divorced for six years. I have had a few girlfriends since then, but none that I would take home to mom(or my dog for that matter). I became jaded with relationships and gave up. I was happy and content being single and alone......then, along came Nana. I met Nana on my third day in Thailand and spent the next 3 weeks with her. She is a free spirit, a beautiful person, and I felt at home with her from the start. I tried to fight myself and keep from getting close to her, but it did not work. She took my heart and there was nothing that I could do. We compliment each other very well and she makes me happy. I am very lucky to have her in my life. We have had a few tough moments since my return to America due to communication failures(her English is not very good and my Thai is pretty basic at best). Some days it is a struggle to have a simple conversation and other days we have no problems. She has been going to English class for a month now, so it is getting better by the day. She studies her books and we work on her English together. I am very proud of her. I have never fought or worked this hard for anyone in my life, but she is worth everything that I can give and more.

I will send her the correct forms to sign and hopefully start the visa process in August. I am excited to get started, but not looking forward to the wait. I will go back to see her and meet her family in December, so that will help a little. I'm ready to begin this journey with all of you.

Thanks for listening to my rambling.

Take care,

Chris

Hi Chris and congrats on your exciting relationship. I just want to say it will be a journey. if you are not using an attorney be sure to go USCIS.com for the documents to file first.

this is not going to happen asap, but it requires time, patience and alot of emotion...i am going thru my journey and it has taken 2yrs of traveling, translation of documents and money.....there will be times you will be soooo traumatic you will say Just one more mile to go. Because you love this person and you have connected emotionally.

Good Luck!

Welcome Chris! Yes it is a long process but like you said it is so worth it! Just be patient and read ahead so you are informed. If your case is a straight case, you can get lots of help on VJ to help you through the process. The hardest part is the waiting and the missing each other! If you have any question just post it on here as well as some of the threads of people filing the same time as you. I find that we are always looking and answering each other quicker cause we just been through it.

Also reading the guides, the flow chart and the RFE master list helped me a lot so I know what to look out for and what not to freak out on when I do get my first and only RFE( Request for Evidence). Lots of sleepless nights, the time zone thing, the lost in translation or the internet God's acting up and cutting you off...We know! Welcome,You're in great company!

Chris,

I know exactly how you feel. The same happened to me with a woman in Nicaragua. We'll also start the K1 process in August.

Keep the faith.

Mike

Mike,

Its been a wild ride so far. I cant explain how it happened or why, but I am happy that it did. Good luck to you and your new love. I wish you and her the best. Keep in touch and keep me updated on your progress.

Chris

Francinia,

Thank you for your kind words and advice. I will not be using an attorney. I try to avoid them whenever possible. 2 years??? Wow, you have some patience. I hope that the process speeds up for you so you can be with your loved one. I cant imagine going thru this for 2 years. You are a saint. I hope to bring her here in May of next year. I will go back in December to split the time in half, so it wont be too bad. I am worried that I do not have enough time to prepare for her coming here. I want to be with her now, but I also want everything to be perfect for her when she gets here. I want to make it as easy for her as possible.

Good luck with the rest of your journey. Things will work out for the best. Have faith.

Chris

Thank you for the advice. I have been reading on here for a while, but it still seems a little overwhelming. I want the package to be perfect the first time that I send it( I may or may not have some slight OCD issues). It seems there are a lot of small mistakes that can happen to cause delays.

Actually, I was going to buy Thailand Fever and take it with me in December, so we could read it together. I will read it before if you think that is best. My biggest concern is offending them about food. I am not a big fan of Thai food and do not want to offend them if I don't like what they have. Nobody in her family speaks English, so it will be an adventure for all of us. She seems to have a nice family, so I am not too worried about it. We will find a way to communicate

I need some advice on a few other things, but I will post them in the Thailand forum. Thank you for taking the time to post here.

Take care,

Chris
