Also bear in mind that you need your marriage certificate in order to apply for AOS. Some places take several weeks to issue it and some places you can get it on the same day you get married. Make sure to find out about that at your County Clerk's office (or whatever authority applies where you live), if you're in a hurry to get the ball rolling on the AOS.

Do not file for the EAD before AOS. It will be a complete waste of $380. It will expire when the I-94 does, and will take about that same time to even receive it, so no time to be employed with it and it is not renewable.

Follow this guide for AOS > http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos

The fees for the I-765(EAD-work authorization) and I-131(AP-advance parole for travel) are waived when filed with a pending I-485, so include both of those too. It takes about 60-90 days to receive the EAD/AP combo card, which will allow you to work(along with an SSN) and re-enter the US when traveling abroad while waiting for the green card approval.

You need all the supporting documents for each form as well, so read the instructions for each one. You can also search here on VJ for what to include with each form if you get stumped. There are also example forms here on VJ you can look at when filling out the forms. They can be helpful.

Oh, and here are the details you need about whether or not you need to see a civil surgeon > http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/428381-i-693-report-of-medical-examination-and-vaccination-report/?p=6206232

Do not make the mistake me and my Filipino wife made, as "GET YOUR SSN NUMBER ASAP".,.,.,as we did not, and when we went to get her ss card.,.,.,we were 5 trips there, before we got it straightened out, as in the data base, there was no name for her "new married name".,.,..,.get the ss card first!

Need help here. Do I have to do any other form before he enters the US? My fiance has already a job lined up and would like to start work ASAP after entering the US. first of all I know he needs a social security number. How soon after his entry can he apply and also is it wise to apply for I-765 to get his work permit in the mean time while he applies for his adjustment of status. I have no clue as to what is best to do after he enters the US. Also can he apply for a drivers license. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Just wanted to share my story. Coming here to the US and marrying your fiancee is exciting. I came here on 03-06-2014 with a K-1 visa. Within weeks I applied for an SSN and then went to civil registrar to file a marriage licence. Then on 03-14-2014 we got married, finally. Note, be sure to apply a Driver's license within 30 days of your arrival or else you'll end up like me because the DMV only accepts the I-94 only if it's still valid 60 days upon expiration. I got my DMV lic after I had an EAD (this took 78 days to approved)

Also note that after your marriage, immediately apply your AOS together with I-765. Advance parole is up to you if you planning to go outside US. Mine I did not apply for AP. After you have applied you fiancee will be probably can't apply for any job unless he/she wanted to do under the table which I wouldn't advice. Since June I got my EAD and until now I have no Job. But I'm not losing hope.lol.

Anyway, goodluck to both of you.

Regards,

Ramil
