Hi Kelle (By the way, what an interesting choice in log in/profile/member name, indeed),

Good luck on your immigration journey. Believe me, from my own experience, waiting for four weeks (the time that they suggested) or more for an SS# makes getting the Green Card seem like an easier process. To be exact, it took me about eight weeks, as there was a technical error on their end in terms of verifying my immigration status. I applied for my SS# after I got my Green Card, as I did not have a K1 or similar visas like that (see my timeline for more of my immigration info) and they would not give me a SS# before I got my Green Card.

Hope this helps. The important thing is to be patient though throughout the entire immigration process, even though it can be frustrating at times.

Just wondering how long it took for fellow K-1'ers to get your social security card?...Steve applied for his card 2 weeks from POE and its been now 3 weeks of waiting for the card...Called yesterday and nothing on the system for it as of yet..

UPDATE~

Still waiting......Contacted the local office they said they would send a 2nd request now its been about 9 weeks and no damn card.

Michaela_Hassan have you got yours yet?

I got mine, finally, earlier this week. It had been about 7/8 weeks. They sent me a letter two weeks ago confirming it was now on the system and would be with me within 14 days.

I came in through JFK like yourself. We got married one week later and after a couple of days we went to the SS office where my wife changed name on her SSN card. I asked about the process of applying and the guy ttok my name and checked if I was on the system yet, I was. So I applied and he told me to come back next day to get the number (that is all you need). So I went back to the office and they printed out my assigned number the next day. You don't need the card, just the number.

My card arrived about 10 days later

I arrived 17th dec 06 and got married 30th dec, and i applied in the first week of january (and changed my name at the same time ) and I recieved my card a week ago, so it did take a little while for me.

Smiles at Lisa....Yeah it sure seems like it (black thunderclouds) 9 days till the wedding and Steves family is flying in from the UK on Tues and from the forecast it looks as is we might have the biggest snowstorm of the year in our area one good thing is I have a Hummer for the drive to the airport...xx
