I would be interested to see if you ever get it because I did not think the process from the POE worked for K-1 visas.

I wouldn't trust the POE process for it. All I've ever read says to give it two weeks from the time you enter the US to appear in their system before you go to the office and apply.

If its been three weeks since you entered now, I'd be going to my local SSA office if I were you. If they've already issued something based on the POE, it'll be in the system. If not, then you can get the ball rolling.

He applied at the local office 2 weeks after getting into the states, and its been 3 weeks since we applied, 5 weeks in total...Called the 800 number to see if there was a problem, I thought most people that applied for the SSN got it within a week and then was told he has not been processed.

Sorry if i was unclear in my 1st post.

Long story short i guess i need to go back to the local office and find out whats going on.

I remember the days of USCIS Customer Service...And if Social Security Customer Service is anything like them I have a long road ahead of me

We went to SS office in Towson after getting AOS approval, and filled out apps (I needed to get a replacement card, both anyway and because I'd lost the original "with INS authorisation"). We were told it would take maybe 2 weeks to get my replacement card, about 4 for Pras' new one.

Reality: 1 week for my replacement, 8 for Pras'.

I applied for mine about ten days after coming over here (around 20th December). The SSN said that they hadn't received the documents from the POE yet. She still took all my details though, said she had to send them off to get the card. The letter I got to take back with me said it could take up to 6 weeks.

Claudeth applied two weeks after she arrived and received the card in the mail a week later. Getting her name changed to her married name was a different story. The social security office wouldn't accept the marriage certificate, they needed something offical from the USCIS so when she got her EAD we went back. It took about six weeks to get the new card in the mail.

Good luck

Carlos applied on 1/11 at a local office down the road from us and he recived it in the mail on 1/17...and that included the Martin Luther King holiday! Perhaps the quickness is because we were already married? Or, maybe we were lucky.

We applied on Dec 18 and it's still not here, but we did receive a letter on Tuesday that it will be here in 2 weeks. Before that I had visited the office and they told us that immigration had not gotten back to them yet, that's what the hold up is...I guess they got back to them now and they're mailing out the card.

Yup, that is exactly what we were told. They have to get in touch with immigration first. It has something to do with the fact that my POE documents were not yet on the system. So they have to get in touch with USCIS and vice versa. People who got their cards quickly were obviously on the system when they applied for the SSN. Luck of the draw I guess.
