MINGORA: A teenage girl, whose nose had been chopped off by her husband on May 16, wants the accused punished under the Qisas (retribution) laws.

Talking to reporters here, Shahida, 18, said that was only seven years old when she was married to the accused, Sahibzada, after his sister married with her brother. She alleged that she had been subjected to torture since her marriage, adding that her husband once broke her hand and also hanged her from ceiling fan in her house.

The victim girl said that she was also confined in a room for 20 days. She said that she managed to escape from her husband’s house at Manja area in injured condition and got admitted to Saidu Sharif Hospital for treatment.

...

The victim demanded of the government to give to her custody her two and half year old son and also provide her free treatment as she couldn’t afford expenses on the treatment of her nose.

A "got your nose" game gone too far?

No, really, this is disgusting.

it is. A nose for a nose, I am surprised the protestants aren't all over approving of this type of ####### for tat justice.

Oh good, ti t for tat is no longer an acceptable phrase on VJ

It prob wouldn't hurt my feelings if the guy has his nose cut off. And I'm not usually much into the "eye for an eye" stuff. Maybe it could be an option. Like he could elect to have that done in exchange for a lesser sentence. Assuming he'll actually be sentenced for anything.

A grown man marrying a 7 year old? I think he should have something else cut off instead of his nose.

Hopefully they were only "betrothed" and not really married, and it's a bad translation.

I'm pleased to have learned of Watta Satta from this article today - the simultaneous bride exchange in two families of a daughter to the other families sons for marriage. The idea being that if one son abuses a wife then that wife's brother can abuse the other families wife in retribution. So in the fine tradition of Watta Satta should that not be the solution? Remove the nose from the other bride.

They can be married in name only in some cultures. They get married very young but continue to live with their parents until they reach a more fitting age to run a household and engage in sexual activity. it's still wrong though. People shouldn't be forced or married off when so young they don't even know what marriage is. It's a cultural phenomena that should become obsolete sooner or later. In most cultures, as I understand it, the reason for early marriage is to forge family alliances and increase financial stability, it's got nothing to do with love.

And that's a sad part about it. It's like these children are sold like goods at a store. Or traded for something. It seems inhuman to me.
