  1. 1. If the AG in your state said this, what would you do?

    • Work on getting rid of him.
    • Prepare my dangerous chemicals questionnaire and start driving around. There are so many facilities in a 15 mile radius and so little time!
    • I wouldn't care. I'm just a regular Joe/Jane, why do I need to know anyway? The Lord will take care of me.

Republican Attorney General Greg Abbott, under fire for blocking public access to state records documenting the location of dangerous chemicals, said Texans still have a right to find out where the substances are stored — as long as they know which companies to ask.

“You know where they are if you drive around,” Abbott told reporters Tuesday. “You can ask every facility whether or not they have chemicals or not. You can ask them if they do, and they can tell you, well, we do have chemicals or we don’t have chemicals, and if they do, they tell which ones they have.”

In a recently released decision by his office, Abbott, the Republican candidate for governor, said government entities can withhold the state records — in so-called Tier II reports — of dangerous chemical locations. The reports contain an inventory of hazardous chemicals.

But Abbott said homeowners who think they might live near stores of dangerous chemicals could simply ask the companies near their homes what substances are kept on site.

Everything Texas does is perfect.

Yes. Criticism of Texas is misguided because there is simply nothing to criticise in the first place.

The open border that allows 9 year old's to enter also allows any extremist group that desires to use chemicals to enter....... It doesn't take much effort to cause mass harm to a population. It is a good move.

But this ban will only stop the good guys from getting chemicals. Bad guys will figure this out and get the chemicals anyway!

Isn't that the gun control argument?

If I may. I was the Plant manager of a company that made cleaning chemicals. we had yearly reporting obligations on certain quantities of select chemicals. A couple in particular to the BATF and Homeland Security. Also if we crossed a threshold of a certain quantity of chemicals, we had to meet very specific requirements. We were also required to report to the local fire department what chemicals they may face if they had to enter the place. The use and storage of ANY I repeat ANY chemical listed as Hazardous was closely regulated by the EPA

This article is hyperbole and nothing else. The reason there is not a central list for people to access and browse, and they have to request a list if they live near by, is so the bad guys can't get a shopping list for things to be used as weapons . Not to mention all the Meth labs out there.

Surely you don't want to advertise to the world you have 245 gals of hydrogen Peroxide in one place, and 20 miles down the road they have a tank of acetone, and you can get sulfuric acid from the battery place.

Dude all you need for that are two guys standing in a crowd with pressure cookers full of nails, bleach and household cleaners. Anyone could do it. Anyone wonder why noone blows up commuter trains or other soft targets like that? Perhaps because the threat isn't very real.
