Philly food truck explosion injures at least 11

PHILADELPHIA—

An exploding propane tank on a lunch truck sent a ball of fire across a Philadelphia street on Tuesday, critically injuring two people and spreading debris far and wide, police said.

"The fireball engulfed the entire truck and crossed the street," said Philadelphia Chief Inspector Scott Small.

At least 11 people were sent to area hospitals with injuries from the blast in the tightly-packed Feltonville neighborhood of Philadelphia, but five of them were treated and released, Small said.

A girl and a woman with burns over more than 50 percent of their bodies were hospitalized in critical condition, he said.

Two surveillance cameras from nearby businesses captured the moment of the blast, said Small, who viewed the tapes.

The explosion sent the propane tank flying from the food truck about 150 feet into the backyard of a nearby rowhome, Small said.

Luis Rivera, 23, said his Wyoming Avenue home shook from the blast. When he saw somebody running down the street, he ran out to follow.

"I thought it was a car accident there are usually a lot on this street," he said. "Then I came outside and saw the lunch truck in flames."

A car that was passing by at the time of the explosion remained at the scene Tuesday evening--its scorched gold paint showing the effects of the blast.

Pieces of debris, including the door from the hatch where the propane tank was stored, littered the street.

The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, and Small said investigators are trying to determine whether the blast was accidental or the result of foul play.

But food trucks are the new thing for cool kids.

I used to see this old food truck parked in a lot. Painted on the side was "THE MUNCH BOX."

I love that thing.

There's a petrol station close to us called "The Pump & Munch". Like...really? Really.

I love a guy who looks like he could be on Criminal Minds as either an agent or a killer.

Omg! I know that one!

My brother told me about it and I almost had a heart attack from laughing for too many hours.

In my home town there is a "Kum & Go"

But Pump & Munch is the very best.

Why are petrol stations so innuendo-y?

Because... they deal with gas?
