U.S. Navy names Michelle Howard the first 4-star female Admiral

If some are to be believed, Obama researched all the available military staff and sacked anyone that stood in the way of this particular female becoming an Admiral. That's a conspiracy theory to end all...well, for today at least.

He's gutting the military in preparation for the up coming martial law declaration for the transition to sharia law via our future Muslim overlords....... Or something.

Why don't they use thicker material?? Is this a recent development ?

Now that she has made history with her rank, earned by instituting see-through pants, with Obamas blessing her first command order will be a switch to a $$-less chaps! Thanks Obama!

I think he did a great job recognizing a woman amongst the qualified personnel, whereas so far all other presidents before him appointed men exclusively.

I reckon you were sleeping back when G. W. Bush did this in 2008...

Ann Dunwoody (Army) was appointed - https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CCYQFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FAnn_E._Dunwoody&ei=yTi4U7-GJZCzsASx0oDoCQ&usg=AFQjCNFlCqGpwq50ljoytD1DOBnprKg17Q&sig2=_SN9xtYCYNJXVm0QQaOpDg

Or when Janet Wolfenbarger (Air Force) was nominated in 2012.

Already discussed - and I am sure praised when it occurred. Moving on...

Thhere is no difference, other than when W did it is was a good thing but now it is not anymore because it is Obama. It is an old recurring theme around here. Obama is responsible for any and every last ailment on the face of planet Earth.

I haven't seen that here, what I have been reading is that Obama had nothing to do with her appointment, nor her performance in getting to where she is now, other than confirming her. No Kudos needed for him, I would say they should be all for her.

Natural wastage is being booted and shown the door? OK.

Tell that to the families who just bought a new house because they were told they were moving to a new duty station... only to be called into the commander's office and fired. Unexpectedly, with no notice. It's actually pretty damaging, morally and emotionally. It's not "natural wastage". People are just be letting go to save money on military spending. About the same amount of money that COULD have been saved, had the government decided instead to cut benefits for illegal immigrants. Reckon why people who are serving our country and are LEGAL citizens, are being penalized over the illegals?

I am not talking about the general troops, the proposal was that Obama went through all the people who stood in her way and sacked them. That's just stupid. Yes, military spending has been cut, it has to be, it's one of the largest contributors to the federal budget, there's no getting around making cuts in military spending if you want the national debt to shrink. I know the moral outrage is all about spending on entitlements, but even if you eliminated every single program the budget would still not be balanced and of course, if you don't prevent people from ending up on the streets, you are going to spend money dealing with them when they are. So, I have sympathy for people who saw being in the military as a lifelong career, but no more so than those who thought they had a job for life because of the skills they learned and found out that they are now obsolete and on the dole in the private sector. It's all part and parcel of the same issue, work towards a sustainable economy, not an ever increasing one, that's now over.

But you would agree an 04 or 5 with two pass overs should not be thinking long term

It is a matter of opinion. I still say kudos to both Bush and Obama for recognizing valor and nominating these women for their promotions. Having said that you're free to presume neither president had anything to do with their nominations.

I agree. In fact, "2 looks, up or out" should be the motto, just as it is with Warrant officers. I think the NCO Corps should be run that way too. Not much need for 20-year E4's and E5's.

I wonder if her pay is 70 percent of what her male peers are. After all that is standard practice here.

Agree. There were a lot of 0-4's and 0-5's and even some 0-3's on that list. It has always been standard to procedure to cull the ranks if they don't progress. I darn sure am not defending obama, but I find it hard to believe the admin is involved in removal of Field grade officers.

In the guard we had that problem. Lot of career E-4's . When i was in we also had a large part of the officer core that were draft dodgers from the Vietnam days serving out their 20. I think things got better as they got out .

Unfortunately not true for the O ranks. They can get passed over and stay in. Not long perhaps, but more than the one more look that WOs get.
