I think he did a great job recognizing a woman amongst the qualified personnel, whereas so far all other presidents before him appointed men exclusively.

Really. No other Presidents appointed women ?/ Wow who woulda thought.

I would be pretty excited if he just recognized the most qualified person with out regard to sex or color, which she may well have been.

So if he picked her out of a list just because she is female then he is sexist

I think that her being the first 4-star female admiral indicates that.

However the fact remains I am happy to live in a country where women have the chance to develop their careers to a point where they become qualified for such high posts in our military.

Well done Obama.

Well done Bush

Ann Elizabeth Dunwoody (born January 14, 1953)[3][4] is a retired four-star general in the United States Army. She is the first woman in U.S. military and uniformed service history to achieve a four-star officer rank, receiving her fourth star on November 14, 2008.[5]

In 2005 Dunwoody became the Army's top-ranking female when she received the promotion to lieutenant general (three stars) and became the Army's Deputy Chief of Staff, G-4 (logistics). She was nominated as Commanding General, U.S. Army Materiel Command, by President George W. Bush on June 23, 2008, and confirmed by the Senate one month later.[6] She served in that capacity until August 7, 2012,[7] and retired from the Army on August 15, 2012.[2]

I am sure that at the time (in 2008) everyone did give credit for Ann Dunwoody being capable of being promoted to that rank, what's he point of bringing it up now? Is it valid for both or invalid for both? What's your point? I don't get it.

We can now see why the purge

So, reducing he military spending budget is a purge? Do you think the government should solely and exclusively fund the military? Without reduced military spending, your tax contribution to federal spending ain't going down any, ever ;)

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

0-4's and 0-5's being passed over twice and booted is very common.

Were top brass booted in order to have her promoted... This problem could be worse for the US.than Iraq...In Iraq .none of the top commanders knew how to fight a battle and the army just melted .... They were all political hacks 1,000 fighters equipped with little more than small-arms weaponry and soft-shelled pickup trucks. kicked the butts of an estimated 30,000 Iraqi Army soldiers who were trained by the U.S. military and given billions in sophisticated American military equipment.... What I have read is that all the commanders were political hacks

Is this happening in our military? Perhaps she is the best person for the job .. We hope so.

If more citizens were armed, criminals would think twice about attacking them, Detroit Police Chief James Craig

Florida currently has more concealed-carry permit holders than any other state, with 1,269,021 issued as of May 14, 2014

The liberal elite ... know that the people simply cannot be trusted; that they are incapable of just and fair self-government; that left to their own devices, their society will be racist, sexist, homophobic, and inequitable -- and the liberal elite know how to fix things. They are going to help us live the good and just life, even if they have to lie to us and force us to do it. And they detest those who stand in their way."

Sounds like Nam in which a bunch of puff west pointers, political appointees and REMF shot up the ranks, and instituted failed policies, while the real war fighters were put on chains.

I am sure that at the time (in 2008) everyone did give credit for Ann Dunwoody being capable of being promoted to that rank, what's he point of bringing it up now? Is it valid for both or invalid for both? What's your point? I don't get it.

Thhere is no difference, other than when W did it is was a good thing but now it is not anymore because it is Obama. It is an old recurring theme around here. Obama is responsible for any and every last ailment on the face of planet Earth.

It is a miracle someone hasn't blamed Obama for undoing something Bush did, which caused the US soccer team to lose the game to Belgium...

Ah the Ol facepalm--C. I have no idea idea how to respond to the overwhelming facts you presented, so I will just deflect the issue and move on.

I always respond in kind, otherwise it wouldn't be fair to the audience.

If some are to be believed, Obama researched all the available military staff and sacked anyone that stood in the way of this particular female becoming an Admiral. That's a conspiracy theory to end all...well, for today at least.

Refusing to use the spellchick!
