How does one reschedule and AOS interview?

Dear all,

I am on the home stretch of my AOS application, having arrived in March with my wife under a visa waiver. When we sent in our package (concurrently filed), I requested advance parole to leave in July to visit my parents in the UK and help them move house.

I now have my EAD/advance parole card, but I was also sent the appointment notice for the interview, which is supposed to be on the 14th July.

We are leaving on the 8th (pretty damn soon) and so I need to reschedule (pretty damn quickly). Here I am slightly perplexed though. I have read other people's posts concerning this, and most mentioned infopass. Others recommended going to the local office in person. I decided to call the USCIS and to clarify and the woman I talked to said to do neither of the former but to follow the instructions on the appointment notice, which tell you to send it (the notice) to an office in Virginia with a written request.

So is this the best option?

If I do this, is there any way I can know whether the appointment has been changed before they send me a confirmation? (I am in rural Texas and haven't received their letters in the past).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I think I would have an aneurysm if I found out we had to pay for the application again and wait another five months.

Thanks in advance!

I read about someone on a different forum who did it successfully with Infopass. Talking to a human seems to usually produce the best results.

You follow the instructions on your appointment letter for reschedule. I believe you send the letter back to them with a request to change the date. It tells you exactly what to do on the letter.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

Strangely enough I found the human on the other end of the phone to be rather inscrutable. I'm going to send the letter off and cross every part of my body in the hope that it works out given the short time frame.

Thanks so much for the quick responses. You folks are saviours.
