I just received an email saying that my interview is cancelled! Have you heard of this happening before and do you know how big of a delay this is likely to cause me? :(

Email says:

Dear Applicant,
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Embassywill be closed tomorrow, July 1st. Due to this unexpected closure, your appointment for an Immigrant Visa interview has been cancelled. We regret any inconvenience caused.
You will be contacted in the next 3-5 days to advise you of a new date and time for your Immigrant Visa interview.
Sincerely,

Consular Information Unit
U.S. Embassy, London
CONS/CIU/GS

How frustrating! I've run a search and there are a handful of posts regarding embassy closures - it seems that there's nothing you can do but wait until you hear from them regarding a new appointment.

As an aside, they posted this on their Twitter page this morning:

The visa email box will be out of action from 8:00 until 17:00 hrs today. If you need to email, wait until it's operational.

Can't find anything on their news and event pages or from a Google news search about what could be going on.

I too got this exact same e-mail, this totally sucks! We have been planning and waiting for this interview appointment for over 13 months! We have gone through the whole torture of waiting in the black hole of USCIS, completed and paid all forms for NVC and medical, this was the last part of the parcel, So annoying.

I saw that feed on Twitter too which doesn't exactly help.

Surely there has to be something better than just sitting and waiting for a email from them which will most likely be scheduled 4-8 weeks later.

Are people still planning on visiting the embassy?

**Post moved to K1 to Embassy and Consulate Discussions

I know this is completely frustrating, but they are not leaving you completely in the dark. They've provided a time frame in which you will be contacted to re-schedule. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do, other than wait.

I don't know about your country, but in Manila (a super busy consulate), if they are forced to close they usually reschedule you in a week to 10 days. So hopefully yours will not be a long delay either.

If it's any consolation, at least you don't have to go on line to re-schedule - they will re-schedule it for you. As someone noted re: the US Embassy in Manila is VERY busy. Have been trying to get an appointment online for 2 months!!! Nothing yet! It's very frustrating. Talk about being in limbo...we're slaves to our computers watching and refreshing the screen and waiting for an available slot - then have to compete with 10,000 others wanting the same slots!!!

I'm fairly sure that the Embassy will provide you with a new date that is relatively soon. It would be pretty heinous of them to make you wait several weeks after they cancelled your appointment! I know that I'd be highly pissed, too!!!

Good Luck!!!
