My husband entered the US with his CR1 visa on June 7th. We have still not received the green card in the mail. He was mailed his social security number, though. He has been applying for jobs in the US since he got here. If he receives a job offer before his green card arrives in the mail will there be any issues with getting hired?

you will receive it takes maybe a month you should have the temp stamp in your passport when you arrived at the poe.1-551 permanent resident good for one year show that when looking for work and tell them the card is in the works you should get it soon.

~~moved to general discussion where other such topics exist from IR1/CR1 process and procedures~~

Have you paid the ELIS fee yet? What does your ELIS say? Normally takes 1-3 months from POE (or from payment, whichever is later) to get the hard copy green card. However, his endorsed visa acts as a temporary green card for up to 1 year. Also I highly suggest either getting a driver's license or state ID.

I entered the US on 14th May and have still not received my social security no. or my green card. My husband and I went to our local Social Security office this morning to apply for my social security card and was told it could not be processed without an I 194. ?? I entered the US from Dublin which has a US Customs Clearance. I handed over the envelope from the Embassy and had my Passport stamped endorsed. I understood that this would generate the production of my Social security card and my temporary green card. Anyone else have this problem?

Whomever you talked to at the SSA was stupid.

Follow the instructions here: http://www.ssa.gov/ssnumber/

If you get another dumb person ask for a supervisor or just go to a different SSA office.

The stamp beside your visa makes it endorsed and thus is your temporary green card.

Have you paid the New immigrant fee on ELIS?
