I'd say that's more because you have competing levels of government and some states which have basically gone bankrupt. You would have a post code lottery where where you live determines your likelihood to survive cancer or a heart attack.

The German system works pretty well IMO. Basic level of public health care with supplemental insurance.

Of course this is the US we're talking about here, where even modest proposals (on any subject) get mired down in hyperbolic, politically charged rants.

That's why there's no progress. Your elected representatives are all crooks.

Logically the way the US is set up it should be a State issue, but the way the Feds have taken over it becomes their issue but they are supremely incompetent in dealing with it.

Who's her and what machine? The mind boggles!

Hairdresser.

Food Stamps are now a credit card and they wanted her to have a machine that could take them.

So very doable for contraception.

It's not over the counter condoms that are the issue. Morning after pills are prescription only (and the other legal drugs that are being argued over). If your Dr can't prescribe the pill because the insurance will not cover it, that's a form of discrimination against the employee. If you don't want to use a morning after pill, fine, but don't make your employees follow your personal ideology. This is a business that engages in all kinds of contracts and exchanges with people that it has absolutely no control over, and yet here we are, sanctioning what benefits an employee can and can't access through their insurance plan.

I wonder how morally bankrupt the owners of Hobby Lobby feel purchasing toys that were made in Chinese sweat shops? Oh never mind, they make a profit off of that.

They probably can't grasp that concept. It would require the ability to think rationally.

Do you think the business owner should be able to impose other religious practices on its employees? Say, for example a Muslim business owner, should they be able to require all employees practice Ramadan regardless of their own personal beliefs?

As I have said before you need to get the Employer out of the loop.

Your comments make no sense, what are we talking about, $50, the money is in the Doctor visit. No need for a Doctor visit.

Where can you get over the counter morning after pills and the like? It's not condoms, no one gives a flying squirrel about condoms, it's prescription drugs that are used when people make bad sexual decisions and want to stave off the possibility of having a baby on top of making stupid sexual decisions.

I do agree that insurance is not the way to go, but this is about an issue that an employee can't just go to the store and buy for themselves to solve.

Wrong gender but pretty sure they are over the counter in the UK.

What does a Doctor add to this and do they not need to be taken asap anyway?

I am not talking about what is and isn't possible in the UK. If you want a morning after, week after or any other after the fact pregnancy remedy you need to consult a doctor and get a prescription in the US. These options are not cheap and are covered for that reason under most insurance polices that are now available. If a business sees fit to decide what is and isn't available to you under an insurance plan, then there is certainly scope for abuse, I think this is abusive towards those employees who require this legal service. More than that, it may or may not suprise you to learn that these prescription remedies entail a certain amount of risk and therefore do require a doctor to monitor, it's good health care advise to have a doctor ensure that you take the prescription properly and you do not have any lasting complications from taking it. Not being a women, all you seem to think of is condoms

I thought morning after pills are available over the counter to women over 18, no?

WebMD News Archive

Aug. 24, 2006 -- The FDA has approved Plan B, the so-called morning-after emergency contraceptive, to be sold without prescription to women age 18 and older.

Plan B's maker, Barr Pharmaceuticals, expects to introduce over-the-counter sales to women 18 and older by the end of the year.
