It was my understanding to was going to be refined in Texas. Not sure who the end consumer is.

The oil was going to China at market price, which is the same price the US pays for Canadian oil. In addition, there are several Native American nations in Canada that oppose any pipeline running through their land. The proposed pipeline design was meant to take the oil through the US to avoid possible conflicts within Canada.

Of course, it is far more expedient to the motley crew to blame it on Obama... The price of aluminum soars as a result.

Exactly. The U.S. I believe is now considered a net exporter of Crude Oil. Obviously there's a good reason to build this thing, or investors wouldn't have bothered with it. The jobs can go to Americans or they can go elsewhere. Seems they'll be going elsewhere.

I lived in Canada for about six years and one of the benefits there is that residents don't have to pay for water. The government.takes what they need and let the rest run out into the ocean. More odd than that, the Canadians I knew (and I ran a 200 unit loft complex for several years) they actually believe that someday the US is going show up one day and claim all the water and give them no choice. When I asked how they thought the US would be able to pull that off many of thought we would use guns if we had to but that we would do whatever it took to take control of the water and charge them high prices to use it.

They also expected Americans to use the word "huh?" the way they use "'eh?"

All in all it was an enjoyable experience.
