In 5 days the length of this thread doubled

My husband landed in Boston last Wednesday evening, zipped through the airport thanks to preclearance at Dublin, and we had 5 days to settle in and enjoy our time together. Today I'm back at the office and it's time to figure out what everyday life is going to look like. VJ at work is a given ^_^ I hope there's been a lot of good news around here lately!

Yeah, I'm a little nervous for my trip to Florida in September where I'll be too busy to get on VJ for a week. I can't imagine how many pages I'll return to!

And yay, glad he landed safe and sound! :dancing: VJ at work is fun ;)

We just called NVC and we're told they have sent out a checklist. :(

She said we have to send in the originals for the birth and marriage certificates. I thought you could do certified copies, which is what I did, as stated on the NVC website. Maybe certified copies are different in Australia vs USA? Has anyone sent originals in and gotten them back at the interview? I'm nervous about sending in original copies.

Another worry is she said I need to send proof of domicile, which I did (about 1/2" thick of paper!!). She's going to check to make sure they didn't miss it. I'm planning to call in the morning to see if they found it. We spent all this money to expedite it to them and then they lose things, frustrating.

Does this mean we have another 30 business days to wait for case complete?

Sorry to hear that. Not sure about Australia but certified copies have to be issued by proper authorities in respective countries. Did you obtain certified copies from where you received originals?

Certified copies are done by the Justice of Peace in Australia. I took the original and the photocopy and they sign it to state it is a true copy of the original. That is how I have done all documents before when I had to change my name after marriage, etc. I'm not sure how I would get a certified copy from the registrar of births, deaths and marriages.

Just what I thought you might have done. Making a photocopy of originals and stating that they were certified(true copy) is not valid for nvc as far as I understand. Registrar should be able to issue "certified" copies that look just like originals. Someone else should confirm this though.

I believe this is correct.

"Certified copy" typically means it is issued by same registrar office that created the original document.

"Notarized copy" can be a photocopy that is certified by a notary.

For birth and marriage certificates, they want documents printed and signed/sealed by the issuing agency aka "certified copies."

I'm the USC petitioner. My wife is British (now a USC!!!), generally awesome, and amazingly patient.

If I can believe what the rep told me, NVC is actually working on Jun 3rd scanned documents. but mine has not been reviewed yet.

They told you June 3rd?, I'm amazed they would tell you :) but i hope it is true!

Looks like NVC is still working on May 30th scan dates. If they are receiving 22k files a day compared to 6k/week before, it makes sense that it would take them > 1 day to process 1 day's worth of scans.

Hopes and dreams for an August interview in London are now quickly fading.

I am almost 100% sure I won't get an August interview now, I am just preying for early September!
