Hi Everyone,

I got a checklist for my AOS today-- very discouraging at first but now I am getting busy trying to respond to it as quickly as possible. There's something confusing about the letter though, and I was hoping someone on here can give me some ideas.

I have a joint sponsor (my dad) for my husband's visa, as I am self-employed and currently not making enough money to sponsor him alone. I filled out the I-864 for both of us, and my dad reviewed and signed his.

So, based on the checklist I can see that I made a silly mistake, and forgot for both of us to fill in part 6, item 10... I had left items 6, 7, 8, and 9 blank as they did not apply to us, and didn't notice, even with copious proofreading, that I still needed to write the amount from item 5 in item 10.

So it makes sense that I should get a checklist for both forms, mine and my dad's. Instead, I have two pages with my dad's name at the top. Both indicate that error. Both say:

The Form I-864 we received was missing the following page(s). Please ensure you include all nine pages when you resubmit the form.

One of them says :

You must submit the following financial evidence:
[x] Proof of current employment (examples: a recently dated job letter, pay stub, or a copy of your business license).

The other one says:

You must submit the following financial evidence: (left blank)

So now I am starting to doubt what they really want. At first I thought they just weren't bothering about my form because I'm below the income requirements anyway, and I was planning to fix it and send it back with my dad's in case. But now I am wondering if they made a typo sending two pages about my dad and none about me... And it makes me feel paranoid because I can't send any of the proof of employment stuff... I have it for my dad, but nothing equivalent for me.

Any ideas? Please help!

Edit: I WILL call in the morning, but we all know how difficult that is, so any other ideas in the meantime would be appreciated. Thanks!

Forgot to mention that it also included a false checklist for the IV docs (scanned in on July 9th) based on the receipt of the ds-260.

I need some help here, tell me if this makes any sense.

We completed DS-261 on July 9. Website shows it being completed. I call NVC today and representative confirms that website shows it being completed but it is not being received at NVC yet (this does not make any sense to me, it is done online how long it takes to receive it, what do they receive).

Earlier today we received another email from NVCinquiry about DS-261 that needs to be completed. The same email we received on July 9, when we did our DS-261. Representative told me that this email is just a reminder since it was not received yet.

Then I asked to talk to supervisor - he told me that they received the (DS-261) data but it will not show up in the system (why is it not showing up in the system), and of course, it takes 30 business days to be processed.

Does all this make any sense, I'm afraid that I'll have to complete this form again and will reset may time, which I do not want to do!!!!

This was confusing for me too because the way it was discussed here I thought that the ds261 (just like everything else) would be "received" and then "scanned" into the file. I called on Monday to check on my case (even though I knew there would be nothing!) and talked to Kevin who was SO nice! He said that because it's an electronic form it was received immediacy but because it hasn't been reviewed there's nothing in the case about it. It takes "up to 30 business days" to be reviewed and then (according to Kevin) once reviewed and accepted the IV fee is issued a few days later. Another reason it's confusing is the first time I called to check after submitting it the lady I spoke with (not so nice) said "Well obviously it's been received since it's an electronic form, but I don't have it showing in the system yet." So I was afraid it was going to take 30 biz days to just receive it, then 30 biz days to have it reviewed, but that's not what Kevin said. He said the 30 biz days start from when it showed "completed" on the forms page.

I hope he's right! He was so nice and I told him how helpful he was ;)

The phones have nothing to do with the speed of document review. The agents on the phone read from a screen and are not the same people reviewing documents.

If you decide not to call, then your case may appear to move slower than others' as e-mails are not the quickest (and sometimes you might not get one).

I couldn't disagree more. For me, calling everyday gave me a huge peace of mind. I was able to get items removed from a checklist before I ever got an email about it. and I was able to send my husband to the city to get another birth certificate on a Friday instead of waiting until Monday. We saved alot of time. We only spent 2 months at the NVC and that included 2 checklists, about 4 supervisor reviews and several conversations with supervisors..

The NVC makes alot of mistakes! You have to babysit them if you want to get through without delay.

If you want to sit and wait for an email that may never come.... go right ahead, but I wouldn't suggest it..... But I really think calling OFTEN really helps . Calling everyday doesn't have any effect on your processing . So why not call and get updates and make sure there isn't anything weird happening?

BTW... my case only took 11 days to arrive from the TSC... case number assigned the same day.... Now, if I didn't call 3 times a day I would have wasted precious time. Everything in our case was completed within 9 days thanks to the people on this thread and the WIKI ( that I read at least 50 times) Our lawyer made a terrible mistake and I would have never known if I wasn't here reading all this awesome info...

study the signatures and you should get a good idea what the current processing times are.

I really didn't want to have to keep calling either and was planning the same strategy as you, hoping things would go smoothly, but I'm actually having to beg them to take our money now. We've had two supervisor reviews initiated after waiting over 40 business days for our IV invoice. It's gotten to the point where we've contacted my husband's state representative now because they just will not do anything with our case. You really do find you need to prompt them to do stuff sometimes. It's a shame, because everything else has gone really smoothly, no checklists or RFEs at any point. I really wish they'd be more transparent as to why they make us wait 41 business days (so far) but let the majority of people get their invoices within or just over 30. If there's a problem with our case, I'd like to know so we can fix it!

Thanks for the response, everyone. It's very interesting to hear about people's experiences and different opinions. I think calling at keys points of course might be important, but the idea of calling often or daily just to check up on them still seems suspicious to me. Even though lovemytico made a compelling argument. :D I am glad for you, lovemytico, if that strategy did help you though. Of course, I suppose it's very hard to compare situations. For me, waiting one extra weekend or even one week between getting a notification and important document sent isn't a big deal, but I know for others it is, especially if they are separated from their spouses. But let's see. I know I'm going against the grain here, but I'm still going to try this method to see the if our case is processed in a reasonable and timely manner without having to call maybe even once? O.o I don't want to offend anyone though, so please know I do appreciate the advice and especially the time Saylin has put into the very helpful and informative forum and wiki. :) I'll post at the next steps. We have to complete the DS261 and then I have to pay the AOS since we received those notifications yesterday. If we can get a moments peace today (our boys are very rambunctious) we'll take care of it, or at least by Monday, and I'll post again. :) Cheers!

Alright, who has contacts at Oracle or Microsoft?? Love how they outed the companies in an attempt to shift the blame.... beautiful.

And bmansour, this has to do with printing visas at the consulates/embassies only. NVC claims that this has nothing to do with their systems.

They went from PC to Apple IOS ;). I bet you they didn't even update from Windows XP to Windows 7 or higher! I bet they were still on windows XP until they updated their "new system". I know the government in the UK paid Microsoft £500 million to keep servicing updates with XP because they didn't upgrade their systems. :ranting:

You should be fine. They are slacking at the NVC. Just don't touch your DS261! ;). There are not so helpful and helpful agents on the phones. Gus, Todd, Jim, and Waldo tend to be the most straightforward and know what they're talking about. I think Todd and Waldo are day shift, and Gus and Jim are evening ones?

Am waiting to see what happens on IV this week. Should be looked at soon. All depends on if I get check listed for this silly Police Certificate. Am feeling really down about it all today. I need to get out of this funk.
