I highly doubt it... But I'm not a tax expert, so who knows.

I am skeptical of any attorney or accountant making this claim with respect to anything other than a business immigration expense to a corporation or LLC.

Further, the 2014 standard deduction for the married filing jointly status is $12,400. You'd need to have itemized deductible expenses greater than this number to make it worthwhile.

I'm the USC petitioner. My wife is British (now a USC!!!), generally awesome, and amazingly patient.

Very interesting observation. My docs were received on June 10th and scanned on June 13th, which was a Friday.

I read recently of someone getting fined by the IRS for deducting immigration related costs. "Mentioned something" is hardly good enough when dealing with the IRS. Get it in writing from him before you act upon it.

I will be filing HOH for 2014 if my husband is not here by then. I think with my mortgage and other deductions PLUS the fact that I am now unemployed.. It might be worthwhile. I use turbo tax and I don't remember seeing anything about immigration fees but then again, I wasn't looking for it either. So far we have paid the lawyer $5130. for his services ( big joke) all the USCIS fees and all the NVC fees and the waiver fee Approx $6633.. I would love to be able to write these fees off.....

If at all true, I think it will be for legal services (lawyer's fees and not USCIS fees). Even there, the case is iffy unless you can show that the expense was related to job hunting. All in all, it seems dodgy to me and I would recommend extreme caution.

I'm not an accountant, but my understanding of tax law and practices is that this does not qualify as a deductible expense on a personal tax return.

As far as I'm aware, even a corporation cannot deduct an immigration visa expense unless it is toward a work visa for an employee. Legal costs and fees of permanent residency and naturalization proceedings are not deductible even to a business doing this on behalf of an employee.

I'm the USC petitioner. My wife is British (now a USC!!!), generally awesome, and amazingly patient.

I work at cpa firm, i highly doubted you can deduct the immigration fees.... even you itemize, this fees are not investment expense, if you get unlucky and get audited by IRS, there is possibility to pay penalty, interest, etc.

I'm not expert as I only have 2 years in accounting....so anyone can correct me if i'm wrong
