In case you're not aware, this isn't an I-130 filers thread, this is the NVC thread (for when you get NOA2). But, you're obviously still welcome to learn as much of this process as possible before you get here! But, if you want anything I-130-specific, please go find the July I-130 filers thread ;)

AFAIK, country has nothing to do with it during the USCIS stage, so you won't be getting any "special treatment" by being from Canada. The same goes for the NVC step. The only time where the beneficiary is situated comes into play is for when interview dates get assigned. Since Canada is on the shorter times for assigning interviews (think it's around 1.5-2 months from case complete date to interview date), that's the only time where being from Canada will have a slight advantage (many countries have the same time frames).

Also, keep in mind, visiting and living are two completely different things. To me, it just sounds like your wife is visiting you, not actually living with you. Not sure if this will affect anything or not for your process at USCIS.

Thank you for the information! And I just noticed this was the NVC tread, guess I saw "July 2014" and went straight to posting.

She is visiting when she is in Canada, but I included that lease in our application since we currently do not have any bank accounts together; just wanted to see what kind of an effect this will have (positive or negative). We are planning on opening in American account together next time I visit to get some activity in before the interview later on.

I've been an active NEXUS member for the last two years and have already gone through their extensive check. Perhaps this will give me an advantage? Just trying to see how I can optimize the process (as probably with everyone else); my wife is currently pregnant and I'm hoping to move to her ASAP. All in all, thank you for the information!

No worries, it happens every now and then when an I-130 filer stumbles in here ;)

The lease and future joint account will be good proof of a bona fide relationship that you can bring to the interview. Although, for Montreal, you're rarely asked to present evidence, so it won't be that big of a deal.

And I don't think being a NEXUS member will provide any advantage. You'll still have to go through all the security and background checks.

And sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but unless you get extremely lucky, your wife will likely give birth before you get your visa.

We were assigned a Case Number/IIN on July 15 and handed our emails over, but still waiting to hear from the NVC for further instruction.

I am able to access the Payment/CEAS Portals and at least enter our information, but we just get the "Please be advised that the case that you have attempted to access is not eligible for further processing by the National Visa Center at this time" message.

Hoping to hear something soon - the woman at the NVC I spoke with couldn't provide any sort of timeline as to when we would at least get the email....just said to call back in a couple weeks if we still haven't received anything.

Good luck to all,

I just figured, since the instructions say to leave it blank if I write 'n/a' on it I'm not following instructions and risk a check-list.

I haven't sent the AOS yet.. so I have some time to think about my strategy.

Did anyone ('recently') get a check-list for filling in 'n/a' or something similar?

Yes we got a checklist on May 27 for not inputting N/A on the postal address if different from physical! Lost us another 30 business days.

Got second checklist and cc on July 11. Waiting for interview date now.

Yea it might take a couple of days, I got the bill email on Monday and it was available for payment yesterday. With the way NVC is working, you might be able to pay any moment from now.

Today is business day 34. Still no IV invoice. The supervisor review was requested on Friday (business day 30). My husband's work contract is up in mid September. At the end of this month, we should know if Argentina is going to default on its debt, which means the government will probably devalue the currency more than they already have this year, likely plunging the country into chaos. Knowing NVC, we wouldn't get an expedite request approved even if that happened and we took a selfie in front of looters/rioters to send them. I'm juuuuust a little stressed over here. We never would have gone through the trouble to move the embassy process here if we knew NVC was going to take so long. We would have just gone back to Colombia and crashed with my in-laws while waiting for the interview date.

Okay, venting over, sorry guys. Sometimes I feel like I'm not allowed to complain since we got auto-expedited at USCIS, but THIS SUCKS for everyone, plain and simple. Sending good vibes to all...

I haven't sent the AOS yet.. so I have some time to think about my strategy.

I really don't know anything about anything, so I try to take all the information possible from the official channels. I've been assuming that the authorities know best what they want, although my brief time here at VJ has made it clear to me that that sadly isn't always the case.

Did anyone ('recently') get a check-list for filling in 'n/a' or something similar?

Majority of the checklist been issued for leaving blank is the form i-864EZ at the address section, you should write N/A or None in that section that says on the postal address if different from physical. Most people get checklist for leaving it blank. That doesn't apply to form i-864. Saylin has shed more light on that few days ago. Edited by EOC4ever

Hi folks,

I did EP (Canada) and I submitted my AOS / IV electronically on June 6. I called about a week ago and the mail was received on June 23rd.

For what it's worth, I just checked my CEAC and the "AOS Fee" portion is a gray "N/A" BUT the IV is still "PAID"

I used a lawyer, so both were submitted simultaneously.

Does this mean that the AOS is accepted but the IV might be a checklist?

On hold now, hoping someone can shed some light before they finally pick up.

Thanks.

-Matt

Thanks for the reply!

If it IS CC, this sheds some light on EP being different than snail mail in terms of processing time. I wonder if June 6th was used as the "scanned" date despite the NVC telling me that the mail was "received" (and pending was the word she used) on the 23rd, so I figured my "scanned" date would be the 23rd.

If this is CC, it appears that either the 6th was the scanned date OR EP has different review methods.

I believe EP used to be slower but now it has picked up some pace. Either way hope it is CC for you!! Holding my congrats until you confirm :D

It seems like every EP person who has replied to my question has had a different situation in regards to sent/received/scanned :bonk::dead::lol:

I know!

After reading ~3 different testimonials, I resigned myself to just waiting and I stopped bothering to see what other EP cases were dealing with!

What I can draw from this is that EP is wildly inconsistent, infinitely more than snail mail to be sure. I know that N/A usually means CC, but that is with the "normal" process, I thought. Though nobody ever mentions an N/A on the IV fee field, so I have no clue.

Hopefully finding out in 15-20 minutes.

I think the received/scanned dates are inconsistent as EP is relatively new (compared to snail mail), not to mention not every country is eligible, so it seems operators aren't as trained well with it as snail mail.

And the N/A only appears under the AOS fee. IV fee never changes  So, if it's showing as N/A under your AOS fee, that's a very good indication that your case is complete!
