Hi! For those who have documents scanned on the 16th of June, I just wanted to ask if when are you planning to call NVC for an update? We also have our packet scanned on that date and to be honest I think I die a little every time I call NVC and get the 30-business days answer.

Thank you very much and I wish us good luck!

It's not worth calling. They seem to be stuck on June 3-4th documents. :(

I'm probably going to call our senator's office tomorrow for help. My AOS checklist (not writing N/A!!) was scanned on june 11th and marriage certificate scanned on June 20th. I'm probably going to call my congressman's office on the 21st because the way it's going right now 30 business days will be Aug 5th and their checklist letter said that they need 20 business days to review documents.

I guess you were unlucky at the USCIS stage, but you're now lucky at the NVC stage!

I think you've used up all your bad luck at the USCIS stage so only good things will happen at the NVC stage, maybe?

If your theory holds, I'll be stuck at NVC until December at least. :o

Hello to all!

So, we have sent both the AOS and IV packet. We received RFE for AOS and my husband already sent it on the 5th of July. The tracking number says it arrived on the 7th. When my husband called them, they said they cannot review the IV packet before the AOS is complete. Is that true?

Well, on the 9th of July we received another check list saying the following:

F - FINANCIAL EVIDENCE:

The NVC has received the requested DS-260, Online Immigrant Visa Application. However, we are still waiting for the response to the checklist letter for the Affidavit of Support. Please return the requested information so that we may complete your case.

_10 - BRAZIL CIVIL POLICE CERTIFICATE:
Certificates of Good Conduct (Atestados de Bons Antecedentes) related to possible violations of state law are available to persons 18 years of age and older from the Secretaria de Seguranca Publica in each of Brazil's states. Because each state maintains a separate database of violations of state law, a prospective immigrant must obtain a separate record from the Secretaria de Seguranca Publica of each state in which he or she has resided within the past five years.
So, I called today and they said one of the police certificate is missing (because in Brazil we need to send 2 types, the civil and the federal), but I did send both with their respective translations. My husband even did a cover letter specifying all the documents. I told them I had sent both of them and the lady said she was going to ask for a verification in the IV packet. But they said above on the F item that only the AOS was missing to complete the case! I am so confused! Has it happened to anyone already in this group? If they said they need to complete the AOS before the IV, why are they asking for a police certificate I have already sent?
Thank you so much in advance for any comments on this issue.

I have never heard before that they can't review the IV before the AOS, they're 2 completely separate things. I bet you either talked to a newer agent, or it's just too soon for them to tell what's actually going on. I would give it another day or two, and then call back and ask for further clarification. If they really are asking for a police certificate that you already sent them, request a supervisor review.

I have a question about field validation on I-864 form.

The PDF form won't let me enter the long address and apartment of principal immigrant. It won't let me enter special character like "/" or commas. Any idea on how to fix it? but I had to hand-write it down on the form and scan it and convert it into pdf. Will it be okay?

Thanks!

Hand-writing it is fine; what you did will be perfectly fine.

Operator said the "checklist removal" isn't showing in the system now.. And of course the supervisor we spoke to, who said she would remove it, is in a different department now.. WAITING for a supervisor to call us back now. :ranting::ranting: If she did this when she said she would, we would have had case complete last month!!

I'm sick of this whole process. It's rubbish!!!!

I seriously think of you guys every day.... I can't believe that this has happened now as well. I think I read on the interview forum that somebody (dirk_diggler maybe?) requested an expedite based on NVC error and it was approved. If you haven't already, might be worth it to email the NVC expedite people. I'm so sorry guys!!!

FINALLY received the IV invoice today..... never been so excited to pay the government in my life!!! :dancing:

Really interesting that they're just randomly willy-nilly sending out IV invoices now regardless of DS-261 dates.... my guess is that they took so #$%*#@#! long to invoice a whole month of us that now the IV review team is just sitting there twiddling their thumbs with nothing to review. :reading::oops: Better start sending out invoices now!!! lol makes no sense..... sigh.....

One more question, and this is a doozy, I'm hoping maybe Saylin will know. My husband worked for Carnival Cruise lines and was issued a transit visa to enter the US. He technically entered and left the U.S. once or twice a week (sailed around the Caribbean, docked in Florida again) However, his passport was only stamped upon entry at the airport and departure at the airport.

Not sure what to put on the DS-260? The entire length of his time in the U.S. (entered August, 2012, left May 2013) or really put the last five times he technically entered and left the U.S. (which would be the last five weeks of his time working on the cruise ship)

I am sure this is boring to read, but if anyone has any guidance I would greatly appreciate it?

Was his passport scanned (but not stamped) on these frequent occasions? Was it stamped/scanned by other countries between Aug-12 and May-13? If the answer is no to both, then the entire period could (?) count as a single visit. You can look up his I-94 record at https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/request.html to make sure re the first question.

Probably any frequent commuter from Canada or Mexico should know the answer to this question.

Thanks so much for the answer! I didn't even know what I-94 was. Unfortunately his recent travel dates on there don't make a lot of sense. Is this something I could call and ask NVC about, as far as it being a question on the DS-260.

I posted the following on the VJ forum , but no response (yet)

Can anyone help me with my question

Im really confused about part 6 on the I-864

in part 6 , item number 5 i have to put my current individual annual income.

then on item number 6 it says income you are using from any other person who was counted in your household.

wich is no one. , so i left al the fields blank.

but .......... when i look at the instructions of the I-864

it says on item number 6 "this section is used to determine the sponsor's household income. take your annual individual income from item number 5 and enter it under number 6.c

then when you look at item number 10.

it will say My current individual household income ( total all lines from 5 , 6.c , 7.c , 8.c and 9.c. will be compared to poverty guidelines

now this doesnt add up because then i count my income twice .. on number 5 and number 6.c ????

how am i suppose to fill this out ???

Number 5 is your income, number 6 is only if you are using anyone else from your household's income. Since you are not using anyone else your household income would just be yours, as the other numbers would not have an amount in them.

The instructions are referring to Part 6, not question number 6.

Thanks so much for the answer! I didn't even know what I-94 was. Unfortunately his recent travel dates on there don't make a lot of sense. Is this something I could call and ask NVC about, as far as it being a question on the DS-260.

I doubt you'll get a definitive answer from NVC, though do try. You'll have better luck with VJ old-timers. If still not satisfied or confident, do what I did with some of the vague DS-260 questions/answers. Put the most probable answer, then add to your cover letter for the IV packet a full explanation. In fact, I have already prepared a full detailed list of all my previous visas and visits to the US over the past 25 years, signed and ready to hand over at the Consulate or POE.

This issue sounds trivial, but I'm pretty sure a quick screen check could reveal discrepancies that raises mis-representation issues for you. Stay Vigilant!

Hi all,

From what I see the I-864 seems to be a very popular item for a checklist. Ours was because we entered my wifes (sponsor) US income in US dollars converted from Canadian as she lives and works here, but in reality it's zero because of the foreign income exclusion.

Sorry to hear you got a checklist. :crying: I got a checklist for the same reason, as did many others on here (including people with lawyers) it is a ####### question!

Good to see some people are able to pay fees today, but doesn't seem like many case completes. Hope that just means people haven't called or reported. Would be nice to see NVC get to some later dates!

On another topic, has anyone living in Australia used their home as an asset for sponsorship? Just wondering if you had to pay for a valuation (I have been quoted $440) or if the consulate accepts an appraisal from a real estate agent (this was free).

Hi everyone, I have a question. For the civil documents on the IV packet (marriage certificate, birth certificate, etc) do the documents have to be apostilled? I have seen no mention of this on the WIKI page or in anyone's comments, just wanted to double check...

My understanding is that it varies according to the embassy-- for example, my husband is Venezuelan, and at some point we realized that the embassy in Caracas requires that Venezuelan birth certificates be apostilled, but not other documents such as the marriage certificate-- it caused a lot of headache for us to rush around and get the apostille in hurry, as we hadn't been aware of that until another VJ member pointed it out to me... I think there's a link on the State Department's website where you can check document requirements by country...someone else may have that link handy and be able to post it. It seems like mostly they are not necessary.

Good luck!
