Yeah, even with the conversion rate, Canada still has higher prices on most items. I always remembered book prices were so much cheaper in the US (yes, I'm a bookworm B-) ).

Oh wow. Nothing wrong with being a bookworm! One thing I am looking forward to is being able to have more time to read when we move :D.

Ok I have the stupidest question... I am filling out my I-864 and hoping to get it sent out on Monday, so now it is down to the nitty gritty and I'm deliberating over every detail.

I am the petitioner, and I live in Canada so my income is Canadian, we will be using assets to qualify for support, we are well over the threshold, easy peasy. I know which numbers from my tax forms to put in for the last 3 years, piece of cake.

Here is where I deliberate: I have current employment, and current income, but I'm not using it for the purpose of qualifying for this form. So that leaves me with a dilemma on how to answer question 6, because the instructions say: "Enter your current individual earned or retirement annual income that you are using to meet the requirements of this form and indicate the total on this line."

I can't check off that I'm not employed, because I am, but I'm not using my income to qualify for this form so I am not sure what to do.

Any petitioners living overseas, please I'd love to hear your thoughts on this question!!! Thanks :-)

Okay this is what I did. Under "current income" I put $0. I checked I am employed, wrote in my employer name and wrote in parenthesis (Costa Rica). I then got a checklist for "proof of employment" even though I, like you, am using assets to qualify. So I had to send in a letter from my work that I was employed there (just a simple letter "Lucybelle has been working for us for three years, etc")

[at first they told me to send in a letter saying I'm not using income but that didn't work. Said I had to send in proof of employment anyways, so do yourself a favor and send in proof of employment!]

Hi lucybelle, sorry you got check listed but thanks so much for sharing your story. I want to do whatever I can to avoid a checklist so I guess I will ask my employer for a letter.

Hi gang! Glad to see the second round of interview scheduling for august has started!

Called NVC today and found out that they have "scanned" our EP packages. I was worried that their dates would start from when they actually opened the emails, but it seems that they've registered them as having been received the day after we sent them, so June 9 and June 24.

Our 30 business days on the AOS package is upon July 22, but we're leaving on our big road trip on the 21st, so I really hope we get some news on that before we leave. It will be much easier to respond if we (heaven forbid) have a checklist on the AOS if we're not in some random town in Montana when we get it!

Good luck to everyone for tomorrow!

Hi nightingalejules that is great news that your EP packages were received the day after you sent them, did the operator tell you that when you called? I am planning on sending my AOS package Monday, and leaning strongly towards EP. I know everyone says it is longer, but right now it seems like both filing methods are taking long and I love the idea of holding on to my originals and saving on courier fees (that is money we can put towards interview flights instead). If you had it to do over again, would you still have chosen electronic processing?

Hope you get good news before you leave on your trip!

Saylin lz see my post abv n comment..i really need ur help

It doesn't matter if you didn't choose the petitioner as agent. As long as NVC has both of your email addresses, they send correspondence by email, thus making the DS-261 a moot form.

I am a Jan 2013 filer STILL at NVC!!!! ARGHHHHH!!!!! They have done nothing but screw up our case repeatedly. 1 year for NOA2. Then USCIS never sent our case to NVC.. but they made us wait ~4 months before they would even look into it.. I am so sick of all this nonsense and seeing people who applied months and months and months and months after us get their visas ahead of us. Makes me so sick. All I want to do is be with my husband.

January, 2013!? :wow: I thought it was a typo and you meant January, 2014!

That means you've been in the immigration process for 1 year and 6 months! :protest: OMG! It's torture! :dead:

According to your timeline, you sent your IV package on May 24th. Did you send your AOS package before May 24th?

If so, I hope you get a CC this week! :) Fingers crossed! :star:

Hey Guys,

I am a quiet follower, (my first post) but read everyday and congrats to all those with CC's recently.

I have seen lots of people getting checklists at the NVC and I really want to avoid it at all costs. I am about to send off the AOS and IV packets and have read everything in Saylin's amazing wiki (thank you) and the NVC site, but I was wondering if any of you know the answer. I was born under my mother's maiden name (officially) and she changed it to my father's last name when I was ~6. I have my original birth certificate and a photocopy to send off in the IV packet. I sent off a photocopy of the name change deed in my I-130 application to the USCIS. My question is, given my birth certificate and passport are in different names, do they require the original name change deed at the NVC too?

It was issued years ago and it is the only original all of us (my mother, sister and I) have so I am apprehensive sending it, (will definitely bring it to interview) but I also want to avoid a checklist. Does anyone know if I would get a checklist for the original name change deed?

Thanks for your help everyone!

Let's go NVC! I'm hoping to see some CCs in this thread before the weekend! (Also some IV invoices!) I just called and got through on the first dial and only waited 20 or so minutes, so now's the time to call if you need to.

Scanning packages is taking a little longer now than before, it seems (just like with everything else!). My AOS package arrived at the NVC on June 30 and was scanned in on July 7. NVC agent Sandy was not shy about telling me to wait six weeks, but I already knew that was the deal. :clock:

I hear you about avoiding checklists. The instructions for the I-864 say that if proof of citizenship (e.g. passport or birth certificate) was already provided by the petitioner in the I-130, there is no need to resubmit it with the I-864. Proof of citizenship is only required for joint sponsors. However, since it's just a few more photocopies, and you would like to document your name change, I don't think it would hurt to send it. Don't send the original! They are not required for the I-864.
