Actually, your accountant is wrong. There's 3 acceptable filing statuses when married: HOH (if you qualify), married filing separately, and married filing jointly. Doesn't matter if the foreign spouse is not in the US or not, you're still married.

Filing as single can be a HUGE red flag to the officer at the interview. You're applying for a spousal visa, yet filing as single with the IRS. If I were an officer, I'd wonder what's going on....

Saylin, if you married in 2014 then filing status for 2013 tax returns will be "filing as single" correct?

Is it just me or is NVC currently taking 3-4 business days to process 1 business day's worth of scanned packages?

I'm the USC petitioner. My wife is British (now a USC!!!), generally awesome, and amazingly patient.

I am off to Costa Rica tomorrow morning for our interview on the 15th. My document folder is huge and I had to rearrange my carry-on twice so far. United is getting very strict with the carry-on bags so I think I will carry it in my back pack with my laptop. Sometimes they decide to check carry-ons at the gate and I am NOT letting them check my document folder.. NO WAY

Waiver is ready to file ( according to my lawyer) I have been following the waiver processing times and they seem to be getting approved a little faster than last year. Cross your fingers for me !!!!!

CONGRATS TO ALL WHO HAVE HAD MOVEMENT AT NVC...

NVC sees 50,000 spousal visas a year. Now add F2A, IR5, etc.. VJ shows a miniscule amount of the cases.

So I have a query about Police Clearence Certificate. I am an indian citizen living in Canada as a Permanent resident. I have police clearance (for India) from the local police station in india. Do I need to get a police clearance from the indian consulate too here in Canada also or just the PCC from the local authorities is good enough.

I decided to check the AILA page to see if they've had any conferences with NVC lately, and I found something kind of neat. The down side is that it's meant for attorneys rather than allowing petitioners/beneficiaries to report in, but check it out:

"The AILA DOS Liaison Committee has received numerous reports from AILA members regarding issues that they are experiencing with the National Visa Center (NVC). If you have experienced any problems with the NVC within the last six months, please complete the following survey. If you have questions, please e-mail reports@aila.org with the subject line 'NVC Issues.'"

So I have a query about Police Clearence Certificate. I am an indian citizen living in Canada as a Permanent resident. I have police clearance (for India) from the local police station in india. Do I need to get a police clearance from the indian consulate too here in Canada also or just the PCC from the local authorities is good enough.

The one for India should suffice (what you have already) but you may wish to ask the US embassy there (email).

You will also need a RCMP cert for Canada, in case you haven't done that.

Thank you for your input. I am going to go ahead and send the one from local authorities from india.

Anyways the indian consulate made a small error in the PCC they sent to me so i have to send it back to them to make the changes. :cry:
