Hi guys! After I received my EAD card i went to dmv to take the drivers license test and Boom they tols me i can t do it because i need to apply for a SSN! So..two more weeks for that...:(

Correct you need ur social to get a Drivers license. When you do get one, it will have the same expiration date as ur EAD Since we are in the process of getting a green card.

At least that's how it was for me. My previous EAD and drivers license both expired 10/02 same day my new EAD was approve. Had to wait 8 days till my EAD arrived to be able to go renew it at the DMV. Once renewed I received a temporary drivers license paper to carry with me. It's been over two weeks and still have not received my DL in the mail :(

My new EAD expires in a year 10-02-15 there for when I get my license it will also have that expiration date.

The guy who helped me at the DMV told me that once I get my Green Card I can just bring it in and they will update it in their system and expand my DL to a 5 yr like most are.

GC verbally approved today at the interview! Yay! Celebrations :)

I had my interview at 12:30pm today at the San Jose Field Office. It was over reasonably quickly and was a very thorough process. The lady officer was courteous and tolerant despite my toddler who had to be held back by my husband repeatedly from walking around her office. Phew... I was worried more about how my child would behave as compared to the interview itself. Haha!

The Officer asked for all the originals - IDs, birth certificates, passports, marriage certificate, child's birth record. She went through my passport in detail, especially checking my previous visits to the US and if I had overstayed or met any specific requirements of the previous visas (e.g. I had come on a J1 visa earlier and she wanted to make sure I had completed the 2 year residence requirement). She asked us when we got married (7 years back) and whether I had disclosed our marriage to the US Consulate at the time of applying for my tourist visa.

I think the questions are very case specific. In our case, I think she was trying to largely determine my immigration intent and her questions were all around that aspect. She also questioned my husband regarding his business and travel (largely since he has re-domiciled in the US after staying abroad for a few years). She also asked us if we were living in an owned or rented home. We had carried marriage photographs but she didn't ask for them. I guess with a toddler walking around she needed no more proof!

Lastly, she began to question me on all those standard questions that have a "No" answer and then said that we are approved. Haaaaa..... sigh of relief. We thanked her and she escorted us out. There was some light hearted small talk on the way out. And it was all done!!

By the time I got home (in an hour), the case status had moved to "Card Production". Feeling blessed :star: Glad to be done with this one.

A big thanks to all VJers for being there. Wish you all the best too.

Today marks day 102 for me :( still no interview date yet! My case hasn't even moved to "ready for interview" :(

The approximate time frame for a case to be done is 5 months so hopefully we will at least get a interview date by the end of the month.

I just checked my case status online and the webpage looks different (the mobile version)

And my case was received July 30th but now the webpage states my application was received on Aug 4th

This is confusing ?

We filed June 6th and still have no word. We passed the five month mark last week. We haven't received any updates since the EAD on August 22nd. We haven't moved to "testing and interview" either. Guess it all depends on the type of visa you are adjusting from and your local office. Our local office is San Antonio, but our case is being processed at the Nebraska Service Center. I called USCIS twice and was given conflicting information. One IO said to look at the processing times for my local office. The other said I need to look at Nebraska Service Center, which has no processing time for I-485 family petitions. And I looked up my case status on my phone yesterday and noticed the same thing. The receipt date changed from June 10th to June 13th. Weird. Good luck with everything!

Wishing all of your luck on your immigration journeys.

Here is my review on our AOS interview yesterday.

We had our appointment at the El Paso, TX office at 10:15am (Mountain Time Zone). I didn’t realize that not all of Texas is in the Central time zone so we left a little too early. It took us a little over 4 hours to drive there. We entered the building at 9:30am and went through security (we were quite early). There were a few people in the waiting room and a few more came in … I kept wondering if any of them were VJ members. :hehe: We then got called in at around 10:45am.

The IO asked us to sit down. He asked me for my gov’t issued ID (driver’s license), birth certificate, social security card, EAD card, I-94, and marriage certificate. I didn’t have my social security card with me – he said that’s ok. He then asked my husband for his driver’s license, social security card, and naturalization certificate. He didn’t have his naturalization certificate but had his passport instead. The IO seemed a bit stiff, lol. He then asked us to stand up and swear an oath to tell the truth.

He asked each of us if this was our first marriage. Then he says, ‘there was this one lady who was learned of her husband’s previous marriage in Mexico at their green card interview. ’ He then asked my husband if the address and his profession were still current. He proceeded by asking me the Y/N questions. At some point in the questioning, he started smiling, lol. He joked to my husband, ‘wouldn’t you be surprised if she answered yes to any of these questions?’ He then asked us how we first met. We told him the story with a few jokes in between. He then asked if we got married in the church. I said no, that we got married where we had our reception, then he asked if we had a pastor. We then answered yes.

We had brought our wedding album and placed it on the desk. He grabbed the album and started flipping through it. We had an outdoor wedding ceremony so he commented about how it was good that we had an aisle that was made of concrete and not grass. Something about his cousin had a wedding and she had to walk in grass … uncomfortable as her heels were sinking in the grass, lol. He gave us back our album and started telling us about the ROC process as well as what we need to do should we change addresses. He told us that he needed to do further background checks, to quote him ‘as long as you haven’t committed any major crimes in the past few weeks, you guys will be ok.’ He had taken my I-94 and stapled it to the package but handed me back my EAD because we would be passing through a CBP inspection checkpoint on our way back. He told me to show them the EAD and tell them that we had just completed the green card interview.

We gratefully told him how short the interview was (I would say about 10 minutes) and he said that he spent more time reviewing the package than he did interviewing us. He said that our package was very thorough and well prepared. :D We thanked him and he guided us to the exit into the lobby. As we were driving back, at 4:10pm I got email notification about the card production. Now, we wait for the card to be delivered. :dancing:
