Did he ever go to court to get official court papers to make him sole custody? I don't know how difficult Jamaica is on dads and moms bringing over children without other parents consent.

Hopefully others will chime in soon.

Hi,

Grandmother has no authority. A letter from her is meaningless at the US Embassy. Her words is not proof that you have sole legal authority over your child.

If you can't get the mother's permission, then you need a court order showing sole custody. Grandmother can testify that her daughter abandoned her grandchild.

In Jamaica if Grandmother have been this childs guardian

with no knowledge of her daughters whereabouts, registered

her in school , acceptable that the dad is in childs life from day

one, verified by JP, a letter from school who was known as guardian,

then grandmother has no need to go to court, she is decision maker

COs know customs of the country, many are raised by grandparents/dads

if maternal parent disappears...no court is needed unless there's a feud

and the embassy contacted . Add a letter from school Principal who the

school dealt with over the yrs

In Jamaica custom/culture both parents have the same exact rights

regarding a child especially if his name is on BCert, hardly U will find

couples haggling over anything regarding the child that it ends up in

court, if this happens its usually a parent who have lived abroad & want

to flex custodial muscles, which may end up in court after the child turns 21

yrs because if there are no abuse allegations then parent/grandparent decides.

There may be official laws on the books its not practiced there, I do know upon

:ot: trying to a adopt as an out-sider (foreigners) they are vetted extensively

these days, but many fathers have petition their kids and no court orders request

from Kingston consulate

I think I read that the guardian or a parent have to be present at interview...ask

Pinkriton...as I am not absolutely sure
