We got our P4 interview letter today, they sent it to my husband and my husband forwarded it to me and to my surprise there was some mistake because on the interview letter NVC marked the Beneficiary Birth certficate U ( You indicated this document was unavailable. The consular officer will decide whether to waive the requirement for this document at your interview ) and also the Marriage certificate A ( Obtain this document and present it at your interview ) But we submitted both the Original and photocopy of the beneficiary birth certificate to NVC and also submitted Original Marriage certificate with the translated copy that have been translated into English fully notarized and apostilled. So i am surprised they wrote this. We only have the photocopy of our marriage certificate and photocopy of the translation and also photocopy of the birth certificate. Does it mean they have lost our originals? i am so confused

So i guess that an offer can be made subject to this ....

If an offer is made, this will probably be before your visa interview anyway and you won't be eligible for the job. On most job applications there's a question that asks if you're authorized to work in the United States.

MoBar mentioned a good point a couple posts back. I personally think you're taking a very big risk and rushing for the sake of rushing.

The issue is not what an employer can or cannot do. The real issue is your intentions when you approach the POE. B1/B2 status and job hunting break the dual intent ban rule. Why then do you think tourist and student visas are so hard to get in places like Egypt or India?

Murphy's law predicts that: The Officer will ask you why you're stopping at X city. You will let slip that you'll be attending a job interview. The Officer will cry foul and deny you entry. You will argue heatedly over the issue. And finally, the Officer will cancel your B1/B2 visa with prejudice and adds a 3-5 years ban for good measure.

This actually happened to people! Please do not under-estimate the discretionary power given to CBP Officers.

people have interviews coming up that could use the reminder. I know for myself personally, I've had to resist the urge to buy even though, like you said, a week ago there was no reason to think something different could happen.

This is a good and important reminder... My wife and her son had their interview on a Friday morning in Moscow, and were told they were approved and should have their passports in 2 days. We assumed they meant business days, but were pleasantly surprised when he got his on Monday, the very next business day. I then thought about buying their plane tickets for two days later, assuming my wife's passport would arrive the next day, but it's a good thing we didn't. It didn't arrive in her town until Friday evening, and she wasn't able to get it until the following Monday morning. So that was 10 days (6 business days) after the interview. So I'd suggest people wait until they are pretty darn sure they'll have their passports before buying airline tickets. Or be sure you're clear on the change fee if you take a chance.

I got my ticket for 15 business days after my wife's interview, so I'm hoping that's enough. :/

Thanks, that's useful info. I will definitely get on to scheduling my medical ASAP. Can I just ask exactly HOW is the best way to request an earlier interview? Emailing the embassy? Phoning them? I see you succeed in doing this. How did you contact them?

Yes, if you're going to try and re-schedule your interview to an earlier date, it helps to have your medical exam done and out of the way. Here's my story... I e-mailed the embassy in Moscow and asked how I should request an earlier interview, and they told me I could just send another e-mail and ask. So I did that, and they moved my wife's interview 3 days earlier than the assigned date. I was a bit disappointed as it was almost 4 weeks before the assigned date (and I hoped they would move it even earlier), but I replied and said we would take the new date.

But then, I received no confirmation, so I e-mailed again and asked for guidance. They told me to go on ustraveldocs.com (where I registered the delivery method/address for the passport & visa), and select the new date they had given me. So I went on the website, and was surprised to see that an even earlier date was available! My guess is that someone canceled their interview, and that earlier date had just opened up, but unfortunately I couldn't take it as we had already purchased her plane tickets to fly to Moscow when they offered the earlier date.

So I'd suggest you call (or e-mail) the embassy and ask for an earlier date, and see what you can get. Then ask for confirmation. If you'd like an even earlier date, ask again a day or two later. And again... I'm curious as to whether anyone has just gone on ustraveldocs.com and chosen an earlier interview date themselves without any embassy communication. That kind of self-service option would be very advantageous, and it seems like I could have done it.

If your medical is done and the embassy has your documents (CEAC shows Ready), then, at least for Russia, you should be able to choose any date available on ustraveldocs. The problem is that it seems like every embassy uses ustraveldocs differently, if at all.

Moscow embassy's website seems to say it's the preferred method to reschedule. http://moscow.usembassy.gov/iv-interview-instrux.html and http://moscow.usembassy.gov/iv-traveldocs-instrux.html :

"Applicants who were scheduled for an interview by NVC or KCC (DV lottery applicants) should visit www.ustraveldocs.com/ to arrange for delivery of visa documents and, if necessary, to reschedule their interview date. To reschedule an interview, visit www.ustraveldocs.com and pick a new date by following the Instructions for IV applicants using www.ustraveldocs.com."

"If you need to reschedule your interview date and have already created your user profile, you visit http://www.ustraveldocs.com and choose a new interview date."

"I rescheduled my interview date. How can I cancel the previous date? When you schedule a new interview date in your profile, your previous one will be canceled automatically."

I also don't really have a need to change, as we'd only be moving it back 2 days at most, so there's not much benefit to deal with the extra hassle.

Today our status changed from Ready to Administrative Processing. How long usually until issued from this time?

Visa approved at interview on Sunday but Monday and Tuesday were holidays so today is technically the first real work day after interview in the country, if it helps.

It shouldn't be in AP very long considering the beneficiary is a female. My guess the status will change to "Issued" real soon.

I thought so, to be honest i was trying to kill 2 birds with one stone as i am going to my wives niece's graduation party in Wisconsin anyway, so, while i am there .......

I still have to return as i need to present my research for my masters to my supervisor (i have a letter) or else i will not get the degree, but i get your point.

My two cents worth.... I have also been to the US for holiday since I got married and they didn't even ask why I was there, and I wasn't about to tell them my life story about how my husband lives here and I wish I could stay. (it may or may not have helped that my first destination on that form you fill out on the plane, was a hotel... as opposed to a family members house)

In my opinion, don't most people seeking work visas, go for their interview on "tourist/business" visas anyway (companies don't issue work visas and then ask you to come for an interview). Yes you are looking for "future employment", but you are not seeking to work on this visit (I.e. on your tourist visa).

Going for an interview does not imply a job offer anyway. And if they offer a job (their prerogative), you're still not going to start working on this trip.

Another thing, if they ask why you're there, the only person that knows you're there for an interview is you, you would not be lying if they asked why you're visiting and you said you're attending a graduation. Not telling them everything is not lying, unless they probe, you would obviously tell them the truth. And then, you have ample evidence to suggest you will return to the UK - the fact that you have come before and left, the fact that you have a masters to complete and the fact that you have an interview.

Honestly I wouldn't stress, be honest if they ask questions, and if they send you home, so be it!

Good luck!

It shouldn't be in AP very long considering the beneficiary is a female. My guess the status will change to "Issued" real soon.

It's not like the same AP that they talk about in the NVC forum. It's just status change between Ready and Issued from what I hear. Which usually take a couple days but I guess now it's been taking longer depending on the embassy because of the computer problems they are having.

Because she received a congratulations letter that gave steps about Aramex and they kept her passport. It's not the standard 221g type of AP
