Question to you all, as I am now confused about the further processes.

My husband's medical was on July 23. He was told to pick up the results Aug 3, bc even though they are ready earlier, bc the visa will be for six months only, it is better to have a later medical to help with getting a longer visa.

This makes no sense to me. Shouldn't the visa be issed according to the interview date?? The doctor was saying that it is based on the date of the medical and not the date of visa issuance or date of entry. But does it not matter bc we should have the green card by then?

I am also confused bc i thought it would be for two years. Or am I confusing that one with the green card and its expiration before we can apply for change of status (485, i think).

And one more, How can we apply for the EAD, (765)? I am reading everyone is just getting their ssn's but i have not seen anything about the EAD. While still at the USCIS, i enquired and remember the rep saying something about we apply once he gets here and it should take like three - six weeks? Is that right?

Is it normal that on the ceac status check, the "status updated date" is now July 27th and it still says ready? I find it weird that it was updated on a Sunday...

Mine says the same thing. Updated today but it still freakin says "Ready", as in ready for interview. It'll be a week soon and it still says the same thing. This is fun.

I think it's probably normal to say that on the weekend because it's the actual computer software that is doing the scanning and stuff. Not sure humans are needed for that part. We were told that your fingerprints and picture runs thru the system a few times until it officially approves it.

I can't remember who it was, or if it was even on this thread, but someone last week got their visa and the CEAC site still said 'Ready'. Can you phone or e-mail the place that's supposed to have your visa and get status? I'm thinking with the computer crash the CEAC site is running terriblt slow and is a bit behind.

I think your doctor is correct. Once the visa is issued, it would be valid for 6 months from the date of the medical exam, not visa issue date or interview date.

With this IV category, your husband should not require an EAD to work (it is required for some employment based and other non-immigrant categories). Some employers might get fussy if your husband doesn't have an SS# yet, but they should be able to work around it temporarily and legally.

Just concentrate on getting to and through the interview unscathed for now.

Hello,

Hubbys medical was done day before yesterday. It went well. Waiting for fingerprinting on Aug 11th.. Interview on Aug 14th at Mumbai :goofy:

Hi...My husband's medical is on 30th...what all documents did he need for his medical..I believe it's just pictures and interview letter but want to confirm. Also, when did they give him the results..they told my husband that he can request the doctor to give it the next day because he is travelling to Mumbai from else where and doesn't want to wait 3-4 days for the medical results and they don't hand it over to anyone else. His interview is also on the 14th...!!! Fingerprinting he is getting done on the 31st

Marhaba,

You have six months from the date of the medical to enter the United States, no matter what day your interview is on. Your husband needs to have entered the US before that six months is up.

Your Green Card will be good for 2 years (I'm assuming you have been married for less than two years). Your husband's CR-1 visa includes the right to work. He does not need to apply for EAD. What he DOES need to have is a Social Security Number.

The physical green card normally arrives within six weeks of POE - but not always. If you apply for a SSN at your local office, they usually say it will be to you within a week - two weeks at the most. If you wait for the Department of Homeland Security to send the data to the Social Security Administration, you may wait a lot longer.

Does this help?

Question: Is there any way to track the progress of the physical green card (the initial issue)? I know when you apply for a replacement, or you renew your Green Card you can track it on USCIS's site. Just curious if there is any way to see if the card is "in process" or "ready".

Thank you! It sucks, I am checking the status a bit too many times now! Let me know when it changes to AP or issued, so that I know it's soon my turn :-) At the interview they said maximum 10 business days... hope it won't take more time!

According to a USCIS pdf:

USCIS ELIS allows applicants to:

• Conveniently and securely set up and manage their accounts;

• Electronically submit applications and supporting documents;

• Receive and respond to notices and decision electronically;

• Make payments online; and

Access real-time information about the status of their cases.

I'm curious if anyone tried tracking their GC production through ELIS.

We just finished with her interview this morning and everything went well. The actual interview was only about 5-6 minutes, the rest of the time was just waiting for them to get around to her. They didn't ask for any pictures, any convos, no proof of anything. Just certificates and that was it.

Bringing someone from a MENA country can be so bad but in our case either we got lucky, or to be realistic, it may be that much easier if the beneficiary is female and christian. I could be wrong but I'm just glad it worked out. We are so relieved that this process is just about over. They said the VISA should be delivered in about a week.

Thanks for all of the advice from everyone and if anyone has any questions, don't hesitate to ask. Good luck to everyone!

Congratulations. That's great. Well you know when you have your stuff together they need not ask for anything. I am happy for you and you may be right about the MENA and women and being Christian its rare they are in AP for any amount of time.

Great thought, MoBar! I just tried it. No go, I fear. It told me about the status of my PAYMENT, but nothing about anything else, and no way to find out. The only option I had in the drop-down menu was the I-551 payment.

Dear MoBar65 & Sukie,

Thank you both so very much for such speedie and very informative replies. It helps relieve some of the stress level. :D

My husband received a 12-hour permission, no problem, from the Israelis, to travel to East Jerusalem. So, now, all our faith is in God, that he will make it safely in and out of East Jersusalem, on the day of the interview.

I'm kinda reassured they're going to prioritize immigrant cases, but it doesn't mean the problem is fixed :'-(

Same here, let's hope for better news!

I have another question, for maybe someone that went through the same, my husband didn't file taxes for 2013 he had no income as a full time student. For NVC was enough a written letter as to why he didn't file and he also sent them proof of school enrollment. But I read that someone was put on ap at the interview because they still wanted a tax return even if the income was 0.

Does anybody ever heard or experienced this??
