If you watched the video, you can clearly hear the teacher spoon-feeding the lyrics to the kids. Or is the teacher a six year old? (sorry: translation four yew: "sicks yeer oult").

The last thyme I checked, 2nd grayders wur seven or ate years of age, not 6. And the articles I read on it (aside from the video itself) said it is unclear just who wrote the song. No one seems to want to fess up, which tells me it was NOT a kid...

Sorry, I don't watch much TV. Have heard the name, of course, but couldn't have ID'd him in a lineup unless the other perps were all females.

I didn't really know what it meant when I was in 1st or 2nd grade, of course. But as time went on, and I began to think for myself, I analyzed what the words meant, and I believed in them. And when I was in Korea, or the Philippines, and was in a place where their folks were reciting their pledges, I too stood and rendered the same courtesy as they did, even though I didn't understand the words. It's a pledge to uphold a nation's traditions and beliefs. As long as those ideals are moral and upright, I don't have a problem with it, personally.

You would most likely get more satisfaction/productivity out of trying to teach a rock to walk.

Yeah in Thailand they play the national anthem on all the TV and radio stations at 8:00 am and 6:00 PM everyday. Everyone is technically supposed to stop what they're doing and stand up and pay attention. I thought it was kind of amusing actually. Last time I was there I actually looked up the words in English. It's somewhat ominous really.

It is the ring tone on my cell phone. Drives my wife nuts.

There's a clear difference between what you want to believe and the truth. You choose to believe Glenn Beck's commentary - who needs context when someone is telling you what to believe.

I watched the video, nothing in that video points to there being an attempt to indoctrinate elementary school children. Perhaps you do not know what evidence is? Perhaps you just want to believe Glen Becks version of the truth? I have no idea, but if this is what you use as evidence for your hatred towards Obama then I am not surprised that you do. It's slightly ironic in fact because the one who seems to be being indoctrinated into believing a political perspective with no evidence seems to be you. I'm fine with that, you go for it. Enjoy.

Ominous? I don't see it so. I think most nations anthems say pretty much the same thing, or are at least sung in the same spirit.

You're mean. You took her out of her country, her environment, away from her family and you mentally torture her??? How COULD you?:rofl:

Well, you need to do more than just make stuff up because it suits what you want to believe if you want others to agree with you. If I was the school principal, I would be extremely careful not to release more information relating to this incident if my version of the truth is much closer to the mark than yours is. Not because I would have anything to hide (you do know that schools have protocols and guidelines that they must adhere to don't you?) but because I would want to protect the children in my care. Seems to me that the school is behaving responsibly in avoiding getting embroiled in a stupid scandal over nothing.

IDK the whole thing about giving up every drop of blood etc seemed a little much to me. I guess when every single country around you has been colonized by the white man except yours, I guess there's a reason to be worried about it.

As far as taking her out of her country, I'm doing everything I can to move back to Thailand. She's not too thrilled about it. She likes it in the U.S. for some strange reason.

Can you speak Thai much? I enjoyed my short time in Thailand, but don't think I would do well living there as they speak little Engrish, and I speak a LOT less Thai. Loved the food, the people in the north were very friendly (Chang Mai), I absolutely ADORED the $5 hour-long foot massages! :)

Don't see it as a retirement destination for me, but I reckon you'll do ok with your wife as your interpreter/guide. Da Philippines is a bit easier, because they speak much more Engrish.

I lived there for 3 years and most people only know a few words of English so I learned enough Thai to tell taxis where I wanted to go and order food etc. I really didn't have much of a choice if I wanted to eat or go somewhere. I did the long haired dictionary thing when I first got there, but that got expensive.

I taught myself to read Thai, and I'm actually quite good at that. I learned from reading the signs there that are in English and Thai. Better than speaking it or understanding it. I just don't know the meaning of most of the words I'm reading if that makes sense. It was a cool bar trick to have a girl tell you her name and spell it in Thai. Not many foreigners can do that.

I spent a lot of time in the Philippines. My job took me there at least a week out of every month. The English there is great. The people were extremely friendly, as they are in Thailand. The roads and food, not so much. Also, it seemed like a high crime place. Wendy's had a guy with an assault shotgun in the place for security. I worked with most of the large telecom companies there. PLDT, Smart, Globe, Bayantel etc. and even the company security guards had firearms. It is a Catholic country though. Catholocism and high crime seem to go hand in hand for some strange reason. Maybe it's just a coincidence. Not knocking PI, believe me Thailand has a whole host of issues that the Philippines does not. Just some observations I made there. In fact I lost my passport in Manila and had to spend the weekend there once. Ending up having a blast.

And the banks. I seriously wonder how many actually have ammo? It's just a show of "force", from what I have seen. There is a lot of crime in the cities, purse snatching, pick pockets... and if you lose a driver's license (been there), don't expect it to show up in the bus company's "lost and found". Had a guy I know get mugged in Angeles City once because he was white. Turns out, he didn't have much money on him, so they tossed him into the trunk of a car, took him out of town, and beat the ####### out of him because he wasn't carrying any cash...

I went into PLDT once and had to go check in with the security guard. He had some old revolver strapped to his hip that looked it was 70 years old. I noticed that he had the holster strap tightened down over the hammer where if he bumped into a wall or something like that he might have blown his testicles off. I pointed it out to him and he just laughed. Since birth control is pretty scarce there, maybe it was intentional.
