I budgeted 1200 for the living room ceiling, we've definitely now gone over with the discovery of the cracked joist and I think it is a chord that has come undone from a wall and is too short.

Sort of debating fixing it ourselves. We would, of course, get the building inspector to take a look at it.

We've got enough in savings for big big emergencies and my budget had about 7000 in wiggle room that I was hoping to put towards rewiring, but alas, it depends on whether we can do this fix and/or how much a contractor will charge to do it.

Do you plan to... dunno... change your house (aka: buying another one and moving somewhere else), or will this house be your home like forever?

I can't see what's happened of course, but I'm the type that would want to repair this properly myself, if I felt capable to do the job. If I thought it was beyond me, then I'd certainly bring in the contractor.

Was the architect a firm or an individual?

K, I'm off to watch Holland vs. Argentina.

Hopefully Holland won't destroy Argentina like Germany destroyed Brazil yesterday.

That was a really sad thing to watch... :(

Good night! :)

That was pretty sad for Brazil.

It was an individual but he is probably long dead.

I think we might be able to do the job, but the questions become "how long will it take?" and "will the building inspector think it is ok?"

I'm almost all set for our trip. Need to go get groceries for the big boys as they are staying home. Need to get my inhaler from the pharmacy, do laundry tomorrow and finish packing.

Nola they have plenty of diy websites to fix just about anything if your unsure. Could take a look to double check if you're thinking is right. It's definitely a big job if you could gets a bunch of quotes and see what has to be done before making up your mind.

In a single story house, structural support is easily remedied. Don't worry.

Something went very wrong with a job here, and I seem to be getting the blame........

And I specifically remember telling a junior boss not to do it like that......

whats this mean?

Ganbatte.

A favourite phrase over here. It kind of means good luck in your endeavours.

and I bought this here watch that I'm wearing.....it's a ......never heard of it......some indian watch.....

Patel.....Phillip.....

anyway, work break is over....

Back to lunch......

Gotta love those Indian watchmakers ;)

I'm late to the bag discussion but

I'm a big spender I got mine at Sears :P

That is pretty but I'd probably use it as a diaper bag too big for a purse!

I like that, hmm never saw it at Sears, but it's still a bit big

I'm brand crazy too, I by all the no name brand :D

Woot congrats!

I was up at 6:30 with Lucas I went back to bed when the rest of the house woke up and got to sleep till 1pm and Lucas is still asleep!

That's the ONLY way to use that LV bag, dahling!

So I was perusing over the 1940ish remodel plans and living room ceiling issue has been identified. They moved a wall and then took out something that looked like this that was apparently partially structural:

03-03-19_the-living-room_original.jpg

We've got multiple beam issues now at the exact places they did these things it seems, so we are going to have to call a contractor.

Looks like a church! Wow!
