the US still has sweatshops, child labor and human trafficking. more common in immigrant communities like chinatown as you have an immigrant already based in the US promising someone in the home country a wonderful job that turns out to be "have your legs broken/amputated so you can't escape and can be forced to sit at a sewing machine for 20 hours a day churning out fake marc jacobs and michael kors for cheaps". i agree much much more should be done to eliminate slave labor worldwide...more awareness is needed, stiffer penalties, actual enforcement of the law, etc.

They make it so tough getting a slave nowadays. I mean all those costs with the K-1 and the waiting. This just isn't the good old days any longer.

trafficking is something i am more than a little passionate and sad about. i can be a bit soap boxy when it comes to human trafficking mostly because of the work i did back in singapore and the stuff i've seen happening to actual human beings. i apologize.

If there is anything to be passionate about, this is certainly it. Slavery/trafficking destroys lives and communities.

So I was perusing over the 1940ish remodel plans and living room ceiling issue has been identified. They moved a wall and then took out something that looked like this that was apparently partially structural:

We've got multiple beam issues now at the exact places they did these things it seems, so we are going to have to call a contractor.

Yeah, it's not small, but since I'm using it in the smaller option, its size is right :)

That's pretty, Nola. I'd like that in my hoose.

Well, it isn't in my house either right now, but I'd love to put it back in. *grumbles*

Someone remodeled without understanding the difference between structural support and dividing wall. That truly sucks.

What sucks even worse is that an architect drew up these plans! What a moron.
