Give us your tired, your hopeless, your sick of new yorkers

^ This.

So husband is off at town hall applying for a permit for the ceiling demo. Gosh, they require a permit for everything here. There is no wiring in the living room ceiling, so it seems a little silly, but whatever, it isn't something we can do on the sly without all the neighbors noticing and the trash guy (we have no town dump so they even pick up construction debris at the house).

Its part of the home structure, so requires a permit. You should not be removing that if you don't know if it has asbestos. You could spread asbestos fibers everywhere and pollute the house. A much bigger problem then.

MN should have a new nickname...

Minnesota, immigrant state.

Better than staying so near to Gump and Co. :content:

Don't you know that some relatives are better admired from far far away

If you randomly find a contractor who is baller at roofs and is cheap, you let me know.

I love a guy who looks like he could be on Criminal Minds as either an agent or a killer.

Under the assumption that it does have asbestos.

Well, we don't have the extra money in the budget and that ceiling is looking like it will fall down any moment and then there is going to be vermiculite everywhere. So either a very controlled, completely sealed off removal or a nightmare. We don't have many choices right now. The quantity of asbestos even in contaminated vermiculite is about 1%.

I've breathed in worse in mines without a respirator and I'll take the kiddo out of the house for a few days.

We got a new roof last year, but supposedly they had to be called back out a couple of times to fix it, so no recommendations there.

Why not have Ali do it?
