IMHO there is such a thing as too much censorship, too much political correctness. By assuming others may be offended, whether they are or not, is actually taking away their right to choose.

I never liked the term "midlife crisis" so I looked for professional literature on it and found that it was just a pop-psych term that has no validity in psychology. What I didn't like about the term was "crisis" - as if a guy who can afford to pay cash for a convertible and has a younger girlfriend is in the midst of a psychological melt-down.

I've come to understand applying the term to such a person is an attempt at a put-down out of envy or spite. Less than 10% of anyone actually has any kind of age-related psychological issue, and it ranges all over the map from the ex-centerfold in her late 20's to a retiree at 65 because his work was his identity. It turns out a lot of it isn't age at all, but questioning religious precepts, divorce, work, etc. and to say "midlife" misdirects attention from the underlying cause to age.

*grumble* People giving single mothers a bad name and furthering stereotypes suck.

I tried so hard as a single mother to not reinforce those notions. I'm going to be a bitter infertile, but screw the universe for giving these people children and not us.
