use backer board, "supertek" mortar and tile

Except that the floor joists still have too much play and there is too much shifting. I think the bathroom is worth a try, but the kitchen has a definite slope that cement board won't fix. And seriously, the floors move, they all move.

Is there strength and height space to add 3/4 inch plywood?

If not, the floor boards have to come up and reinforced before tiling

See, here in lies a problem - the old sub floor is original and ripping it up might damage the joists. We've found some info that it might be possible to use self leveling compound in the lowest areas and plywood enough to make it possible to put down linoleum (not vinyl). Tiling an area as big as the kitchen makes me nervous, especially with the slant it has going on and the floor movement.

FTR, I've yet to see tile in a house here and I've been in a few of the neighbors' houses now. They either use sheet vinyl or peel and stick. Husband wants me to put wood in the kitchen, but for someone who actually uses their kitchen quite a bit, wood is an imposition.

I like tile and I like that some of it is impervious, but reinforcing the joists might just be too big of a project/risk for right now and when they shift again, then what?

if you want to do it right, it's a lot of work. The joists will be fine, you won't damage them. But there are many quick fixes that may or may not work too.....

Pretty much all the ceilings ones cracked when we took down the ceiling just from the force of nails being pulled out.

So much work this house is.

Friday back-report, see and sigh and ouch, man:

Awoke after one & one-quarter hours (at Many a.m.) in writhing pain, ouch man.

Mrs. T-B. got yelled at for again forgetting to leave the toilet seat up (no laughing matter, no man).

Mrs. T-B. offered to concoct a supposedly effective Ecu back-remedy, eyeroll man.

Remedy turns out to be a warshcloth soaked in hot salt water, sea man.

Remedy very effectively got bed wet under heating-pad, sigh man.

I groaned for ice; Mrs. T-B. retrieved Many icepacks, freeze man.

Applied ice; abandoned after half a minute; returned to heating-pad; abandoned it, sigh man.

Stagger-limped out of bed again; ingested a Tylenol Many pill, drug man.

Somehow fell asleep for another one & one-quarter hours, miracle man.

Awoke semi-on time despite not having set alarm clock, no man.

Stagger-limped like a baastard, emergently gulped 2 steroid pills, stagger-limped downstairs, ouch man.

Pills had some effect but not as much as usual, si and no man.

Made it unhappily to work, grouch man.

Called vaunted Spine Center; left message with nurse, black hole man.

Piddled with project, distracted by pain, ouch man.

Are you going to Mexico to fix your back for 1/2 price? :P

Dunno how you could endure the pain for so long.. Hope you get better real soon!

Evening! :)

Man, it's so hot over here! Around 90'F! :dead:

It is going to be 95 here tomorrow after having a high of like 60 one day last week. Oh and it can get down to -48 F here in the winter.

That is a range from about -44 celsius to 37 celsius. Crazy, right?
