I have a lawyer that keeps stating not to call or find out any information because it will confuse the systems and they may not send him future information.

His words;

"We strongly prefer (and always advise) that clients refrain from communicating directly with any government agency on a matter for which we have been retained to avoid creating any hiccups for us when we are communicating with those agencies in connection with the same matter."

I want to know how true this is...

But because of me calling I was assigned a NVC Case Number and received an invoice they were suppose to pay 20 days ago and failed to do.

Can calling NVC or for any stage of the case, when you have a lawyer cause delays?

Lastly the way he tried to cover up his mistake is by saying he received a false invoice. Something I've never heard of and researched all night, spoke with others on here, and did not find one thing on it other than a false checklist that is received when you Already paid.

Any advise or assistance you can give me would be appreciated.

One word.. No. The lawyer is lieing.

You will no cause any delays to your case if you call NVC to check the status of your case or what stage you are at. Its actually a great way to make sure your lawyer does what he is supposed and in a timely manner.

I have never heard of a false invoice, though someone can chime in and correct me if I am wrong.

My advice, if you want this process to be done as quickly as possible and if your case is straight forward, ditch the lawyer and finish the process yourself.

You have caught your lawyer in a lie and they are mad you know what they know (probably more) Lawyers do not call NVC they wait for emails Thus the delays.

You have a lawyer which means yoru AOS and IV were invoiced together. I would be hot if I lost 20 days time waiting on their slow behind.

Bottom line its your case and dealing with a "government body" they make it sound so macabre and secret. Goodness sorry for the lost time but now you know and can proceed how you wish with or without them. I would say they lost their money and shouldn;t be paid another dime.

I agree with everything stated above. Fire your lawyer post-haste!

Pay your fees yourself ASAP (if they haven't been paid already). Print the bar code cover sheet for both fees, assemble your packages and priority ship those bad boys so NVC has it Monday morning.

Saylin's wiki is an awesome resource for putting the packages together and if you follow it to the letter, you will greatly reduce your chances of getting a check list. Either way, your lawyer is an incompetent ding dong and keepig him will cause more delays.

I can see why lawyers say that. If you hired a builder to build your home, then showed up with your own saw and started cutting up the lumber with a little DIY effort, it would mess up the builder. And if you had some trees planted where the builder was to pour concrete for the driveway, he would have a hiccup to deal with.

You chose to have a lawyer, so let him do his job. If you wanted to dabble in do-it-yourself, then you should have researched earlier how to do the whole job and tricky shortcuts and not hired someone to do it for you. The lawyer has a standard procedure and doesn't hover like you would for you own case. He hasn't done any procedure wrong has he? He's just not as fast as you wish. That is typical that a lawyer makes it take a bit longer.

He told her he received a "false invoice" on June 6th (there's no such thing, what he received was the e-mail stating the fees were ready to be paid). So it's now June 28th and the fees have been ready and haven't been paid.

It's possible that this isn't a regular immigration lawyer and whomever it was used the wrong terminology (invoice vs checklist)... Who knows, we only hear 1/2 the story but I know most lawyers don't want you to do anything, they just do it themselves, in their own sweet time.

If you want it done in YOUR time frame, then you do it yourself.

Maybe...
But if you hired a builder and you're paying him good money to get the job done right, then you catch him sleeping on the job? Wouldn't that make you want to say something about it or do it yourself?
I don't know what type of process you're going through, but being away from your spouse is hard enough and stressful as it is without these damn delays. How was I suppose to know he was going to be like this, especially if he has a good reputation? When you hire someone you expect them to know what they are doing and get the job done right and on time! These lawyers at the time were one of the only in the country that handled these circumstances my spouse and I were in at the time, so how was I suppose to research something that was just passed into law and I didn't know anything about, if no one else in the country knew about it either? This is why I couldn't "DIY". I don't think ANYONE would "Do it themselves"...
I shall keep dabbling in DIY and hover all I please because this is my life and spouses on hold! This is our money they are taking for not doing the job in a timely manner! I'm sure ANYONE would do the exact same.

My advice. Drop the lawyer and do it yourself. Lawyers only slow the process down
