Should I use new name (husband's last name) for all the forms of AOS? If so, do I have to wait until I get new SSN with new name to file all the documents?

While changing name, could I keep my last name as middle name? how?

Thank you for who knows all the answer, it's so confused for me right now...

Yes, you should use your new name on ALL forms for your AOS.

My SSN still has my maiden name on it. I'm waiting for my EAD to arrive and then I'll go back to the SS office and have my name changed.

I don't know if you can keep your maiden name as your middle name. I suppose you can. What I did is use both my maiden and my married name as last names, with a hyphen between them (ex. Vlachos-Smith).

Thank you! However my marriage certificate shows my original name, so I can write my new last name on AOS papers directly?

Can I change my SSN before filing AOS? I already have ssn with original name.

My marriage certificate shows my maiden name, too. That's not a problem. As for your SSN, I don't see why not, but why not wait until you get your EAD, so that you can be absolutely sure that they match?

Ann, how long have u been waiting for EAD? We only have one option to mail in Chicago lockbox right? No other go-in office or expedite way?

I sent my papers out on May the 19th and I already had my biometrcis a couple of weeks ago. From what I read, it takes about a couple of months after biometrics have been taken, to receive your card.

You will send all of your papers together, in one envelope to Chicago Lockbox. I'm not aware of any walk-in offices or ways to expedite. Maybe someone else could pop in and help us with that :)

Is that means there's chance officials might not approve / use whatever name you write on the AOS form? I'm thinking to put my last name as middle name.

And thanks for your reply, I was a little worried earlier , I thought only my marriage certificate shown myself,s last name, since other posts keep mentioning use that as a prove...now relieved a bit

Hi All thanks for help. Just letting you know I just went to SSN office and get last name changed. Very easy and fast:)

That's great!

I had a little problem with my hyphenated last names and USCIS. In my acknowledgement letters for AOS they wrote both of the last names (maiden and married) but without the hyphen in between ang my husband and I got a bit worried that they might have put my maiden name as my middle name. We called them and had them add the hyphen. They sent me a confirmation letter so everything is alright!

When you go to biometrics make sure take your marriage certificate with you if in your passport still has maiden name.

My wife had problems with that in the USCIS until she showed her marriage certificate. Had to make biometrics on the next day after scheduled appointment.

Thank you JessJoe for reminder, will do that. so I now need to order extra copies :)

If you didn't change your name when you get married, then don't put your husband/ spouses last name . Because you opted not to change your name. Idk which state issues your marriage certificate , in ny, the certificate shows your old name and new name

For example : spouse 1: Brandon Kam Hing Choi New name Brandon Kam Hing Dobereiner

Our marriage certificate (Georgia) does not mention the new name. We asked about that after the ceremony and we were told that the name change will be done on the AOS papers and my driver's license/ID

All states do not issue the same type of marriage certificates. They do not all list the new married name on them. NY happens to be a state that does list the name you want after marriage. A lot of states only show the names at the time you married. The marriage certificate can still be used as a legal name change document for someone wanting to take their husband's last name.
