Marine held in Mexico

Anyone been following this. From what I can tell a guy who happened to be a Marine reservist tried to cross into Mexico with several weapons. He is being held by the Mexican authorities. People that I normally side with are raising all kinds of sand about, Mexico holding a marine prisoner.

1. Why does the fact that he is a Marine Reservist have anything what so ever to do with this case ? What about all the other Americans being held in jail in Mexico.

I just don't get this one?

I've noticed that some Americans, particularly politicians and big corporations, like to pay lip service to those who serve or have served. And seem to reserve special outrage for "others" (i.e., non-Americans) who treat active duty and veterans poorly but have a ton of excuses for not doing better themselves.

Spoke to my fiance about this news story - he's within a few hours' driving distance from the border and also a veteran - he thinks there's something fishy going on: the marine in question might have "forgotten" that he had weapons in his vehicle but the border isn't so non-descript and invisible that one "accidentally" crosses it.

Agree with his assessment. What I also don't understand is why this is such a special case becuse he is a Marine Reservist ?

I spent 13 years in (reserves Mostly)

I never felt that when it came to civil matters I had any special privilege a non-military citizen should have.

I have seen it portrayed as... Obama released 5 extremists/terrorists to free one deserter. What is being done to release this guy?

I have also. Sorry I just don't buy this one . I guarantee you there are many other Americans in Jail in Mexico . They make it sound as if the Mexican Govt kidnapped an on Duty Marine from his post and the Kenyan is ignoring it. Sorry no story on this one
