Let me understand. We think we are part of a master race, but we can't hang out with other idiots like us because they hate all non-white people and we are married to Brown women. All those vile and racist allegations, because we recognize that Islam, has a world wide problem with violence, terrorism and subjugation of women.

And you have the nerve to think we are racist....

Yep. That seemed a tad extreme to me, too.

Or your grasp of the written word is sub-par. Had you considered that?

What is exactly was the context of Obama's 'apology'. Who exactly did he apologise to and what did he apologise for?

Was it to the people who attacked the embassy, or was it to muslims in general?

The answer changes the meaning of the text quite a bit, because just reading the words literally it kind of suggests that Obama apologised to the same people who murdered the four Americans.

No, it is you who has a lack of grasp of English. You are projecting and trying to interpret beyond the words stated. In other words, you must have a special power to read the person's mind who wrote those words. Sorry, just because you think that person is bigoted does not make him so.

The only way that isn't bigoted is if you go 'all Bill Clinton' on it, read it strictly literally, and remove any wider meaning or consideration of the 'facts' behind them.

That is exactly what you should be doing. Don't assume others are racist. You are projecting your own opinions and values by not taking what they say literally.

I think it's quite clear - some of these folks are either knowingly dishonest, or lack proper understanding of the written word.

Again, you leave me no choice but to beat a dead horse, but it is you who is being dishonest and assuming the writer is bigoted. It is entirely wrong and destructive to see racism (and "homophobia" [sic]) everywhere. The statement in question is 100% factual, and in general, you would have more credibility if you assume writers mean what they say rather than what you think they are implying.

Everyone is a bigot. Including you.

I love everyone. Except carnies. They freak me out.

No, you are wrong.

Here is the quote again:

Four Americans Were Murdered in Libya, By Muslims...

Obama Apologised to the Muslims.

The exact, literal meaning of the words in the picture is that Obama apologised to the islamic extremists who killed the four Americans in Libya. Ignoring any other contextual information (i.e. what website the image was taken from, for example) and without editorialising - here are the only two logical conclusions that can be drawn from the text.

  1. Obama apologised to the muslim extremists. If Obama did do this, then the statement as written is factually correct.
  2. Obama apologised to a different group of muslims (or the muslim community in general). In this case, the literal meaning of the words is opposed to the meaning, since in the text it is unclear which muslims are being referred to.

At this point, you can make a couple of inferences:

    (i) The confusion of meaning is unintentional (i.e. it is the work of a bad writer).

(ii) The confusion of meaning is deliberate because the writer does not see any difference between the muslim extremists who attacked the embassy and the wider muslim community.

Since we aren't in a position to ask the writer of the piece to clarify the point, you have to ask the person who posted it. Since he probably won't reply - maybe you can elaborate on exactly why it is 'factually correct'?

As you can see no mind reading is required - this is an entirely logical chain of thought.

I never said racist BTW, I said bigoted. And on that point, a few pages ago Lostinblue felt it necessary to point out that it wasn't Christians who attacked the embassy but muslims (hence the statement is factually correct in his/her view). I would ask the same question to you and he/she - do you see a difference between muslim and muslim extremist?

No one here, including me, is questioning the difference between a muslim and muslim extremist.

I'm not a literacy snob, but seriously. Is there that much of a gap in the level of English literacy?

I know you like to get the last word in... but flippantly attacking people as stupid (or illiterate) does not make your comprehension of the words (and mind reading ability) any more accurate.
