Hi I have a mother who is extremely ill, with high risk surgery in her near future (a month's time) and I would like to request for my brother who is in Vietnam to visit. He has strong ties in Vietnam (with 2 kids, a wife and a running business).

What is the process for this application? Do I reach out to to the American Embassy in Vietnam or do I apply through the land of security in the states?

What I have:

- A letter from the doctor, listing all her illnesses that would make it difficult for her to fly to Vietnam

- A copy of my passport

- A letter requesting for my brother's visitation due to the circumstances

What else do I need and where should send these papers? How much the application would be?

Thanks!

Diana

He applies, send the medical evidence to him.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

He applies on his own. You can send the evidence for the medical situation. Your passport has nothing to do with the application.

These visas always hinge on the persons ability to prove they must return. Many people have left houses and even kids behind but if that is what he can show it will have to do.

I believe the fee is still 160 dollars.

Hi Diana,

Unfortunately, there is no visa to visit a sick family member in the US.

Your brother applies for a visitor visa on his own. He can submit medical documents about your mother as his reason for wanting to come to the US. However, he still needs to show strong ties to overcome the presumptions that all visitors intends to immigrate.

Your passport is not relevant for your brother's visa application.

B2 is the visa to visit sick relatives. Amongst other uses.

A separate category would seem illogical.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

First time posting in s forum, a friend said you guys were quick but this is great. I am very new at this so my apologies if I am seem to be dancing around the same question.

So he would have to gather up the paperwork along with my mother's doctors note to apply at the US embassy in Vietnam?

Where does the $160 go? Do I send a money gram or can I send it to a place here? Or does that come out of his pocket to be brought in with the paperwork

The Consulate web site has all the info.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
